Glad to hear someone gets over 20. But then you are 2dr, 4 cyclinder. I have dbl cab long bed V6. I tried to get 20 when I first bought my Tacoma in 2006, but never could. Even taking it easy the best I did was 18.5 mpg.

Well the size difference is 1" or less in diameter. That is still within 3% which is about as accurate as an odometer or speedometer is going to be anyway. I have checked it with my GPS and it is pretty close. I realize the speedometer and odometer are not calibrated together and each one could vary 3% either way but my speedometer seems to be pretty darn close to accurate which tells me it was off before which may have inflated the MPG results. Making them appear better than they really were.

All that said we are talking about 10 to 12% or more difference in where the window sticker says it should be and what I am getting.

My whole point was a comparison to my full size F150 I had with a 5.4L engine. I drive the same roads and in the same manner as before. I have no desire to change to a grand ma driving style if I can get near the same mileage out of a full size with the same spirited driving.

I just changed air and oil filters to make sure that was not a problem as well.

Maybe a combination of bad winter gas / ethenol/ larger E rated tires/ more aggressive tread pattern all add up to sucky fuel mileage for a Tacoma. Maybe the V8 engine was not as adversely affected by these conditions??

    Who knows...

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
^^ your speedo was off from the factory, but your ODO was correct. Now your speedo is close, but your ODO is slightly off. It's been discussed on here before about the digital/analog conversion causing the initial speedo calibration to be off.

I just took a 1,000 mile trip to Florida and got around 17mpg on the hwy with a 6 speed manual. I just got my 09 Tacoma about a month ago and have been disappointed by the gas mileage. It sucks that the manual gets worse gas mileage then the auto but o well I love this truck so I will pay the few extra bucks :)

That's a nice looking Tacoma. Why do the seats say TRD Sport, but your Tacoma is a TRD off-road? I do like those leather seats, they really look good.

I wanted leather seats when I bought it and those were the only option we could find. We found solid grey leather with no embroidery but this two tone leather is an exact match to the interior of the Tacoma. The dark sections even have the little dimples just like the dash and door panels. I thought I could live with the "sport" on them. The dealer said it had something to do with licencing from Toyota... I didnt really care... I just liked them.

    Thanks for the compliments.

Here's a question, how long can you go (in miles) after the light comes on? My truck is new so i just wanted to see how my miles per tank i can get compared to my 5.4L F-150. I used to get roughly 320 per tank in that gas guzzler (shitty, i know). I get about 285 in my TRD Sport 4x4 4.0 until my light comes on. Im convinced i could go to 325 easily, but i dont want to test it. Has anyone tested the light? When i fill up, it'll only take about 16.5-17 gallons, so i know i have a bit in the "reserve". Regardless, im much happier in the taco in terms of mpg!

I get past E, and never needed more than 19 gallons. I figured I had about 40 miles left given my calculated mpg. If you had 4 gallons to empty and 17 mpg, you had about 64 miles to go.

Fuel gauges are like women, you have to watch them close to see what they are up to and pay close attention so you don't get your self in trouble.

I had an 05 Ford 5.4 4x4 Supercrew ..I could only get 320 miles too till the lite came on.And the Ford has a 30 gal tank .It always took 27 gallons to fill it up ,that figures out at 11.85 mpg..The new Tacoma is getting 18,33...I'm happy with it..

2.7 with slightly bigger tires here.

Just really amazed at how badly the cold weather/winter effects the truck.

Over the summer when I got my truck, with reg fuel, my fuel needle wasn't actually level with the first dash until about 60 miles.

This winter, trying to run on the lowest octane was seriously sucking the gas so I switched up to 93 octane and got better results, but still crappy as compared to summer.

Over the winter I was damn lucky to get 35 before the needle was level with that first dash.

And now that the weather has been turning around, I'm at about 51 miles and my needle has barley moved/has just become even with the first dash.

Insane, never seen a vehicle react to the cold weather like this.

I use an app called fram gas cubby since April. Works great just enter your odometer, price, and gallons each time you get gas. It does the rest. I averaged 20.4 until October then it started to drop. The app graphs it, so it is easy to see when it started dropping. I'm convinced the weather or gas or both is the reason. Another thing that shows on the graph is how much it changes from tank to tank. You can't get one tank of gas and know the mpg because it can very about 4 mpg depending on how full you fill it where you fill it and how you drive. Now its 19.8. I can drive very frugally and get 21. I think Toyota is full of it when they put 21 highway on the window sticker.

X2 on truck being sensitive to cold weather, my mpg was really bad for a 4 cyl the last month, turns out I had a bad o2 sensor.

Just went 386 miles, with 2 3/4 gallons left.
    2.75 * 20 = 55
Guess I could have gone 441 I wanted to chance running dry.

I am pretty sure I could safely go 400 miles each tank (maybe more if all highway) but tend to get nervous around 370
