At least yours is still driving. Mine is at the dealer...22k miles and "out of warranty". Bastards.

Isn’t the factory warranty 36k miles? Except for wear items

Long story short, parking brake linkage has been bent since the factory and slowly bending the brake shoe against the backing plate every time I set the parking brake. Adams and Legends performed the 10k and 20k service which includes "Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs" but both dealers admitted they don't pull the drum on either service since it is a new vehicle. They both argued that the 3rd gen Taco comes with disk brakes in the rear and Legends swears they measured the rear pads to be at 9mm 2k miles ago. When I challenged them to send me a picture of said brake pads, the service writer changed his story to brake components only carry a 12mo/12k warranty and the repair would be $1,200. I called corporate and they confirmed that is a "wear" warranty and not a damage warranty and the damaged components are covered under the 36/36 warranty. Then Legends came back and said that the damage was externally influenced but couldn't give any example of how a brake shoe could curl off the backing plate by taking the truck off-road. Then they offered a 'good faith' option to cover half the repair so I'd be out $600. I asked for the service manager at this point and got a call back last night. Service manager said that the writer should have NEVER told me that they don't do the inspection but asked me to hold off telling corporate what the writer told me to see what he can do for me. Soooo going to wait to see what he says now.

Nope. You tell corporate every last word right now. They're fudging warranties and they'll lose their license for it. They owe you a repaired truck and they owe you for lost time. There is no excuse for them to act like that.

Hendrick tried pulling that crap on my frame recall. Don't wait. When Olathe toyota found such a big hole corporate had Hendrick apologize because there's no way they wouldn't have seen it 5 months prior.

Yup. Anytime a dealer tries fudging warranty stuff, everyone should go straight to corporate. Keeps the sleeze balls out of what would otherwise be a good dealership.

Having been through this with GM, you tell corporate right now man. That dealership will do everything they can to screw you. I had to take mine clear to the state to get them to repair my Cruze and put a new engine in it after they blew the motor up. Don't let them drag it out.

I told the case manager everything last night. Now they are being shady and saying that the "Toyotacare" 2 year/20,000 mile service DOES NOT include the suggested inspections called out in the warranty and maintenance book in the glove box. The toyotacare visit only covers a tire rotation and oil/filter change. If you want the full required maintenance called out in the manual:

-Check installation of driver’s floor mat
-Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
    -Inspect wiper blades
    -Replace cabin air filter
-Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs

you must request it and pay for it. That means that even though the dealer said they inspected my rear disk brakes and measured the rear brake pads, it doesn't matter because they weren't obligated to inspect any brake items and therefor the false information provided doesn't matter.

I'm calling bullshit on this and have requested a second review from corporate.

You need to get the MO AG Office in on this as well. They love taking these dealerships to task over this. Use every resource you have to make them play by the rules.

Not a Toyota story but similar … many years ago Sunflower Dodge ‘recommended’ that I have them change the differential fluid on my ‘98 Dakota. On the way home it locked up and I had to have it towed back to them. They had the nerve to say it was unrelated to their fluid change and it would cost $700. I stuck to my guns and they finally relented. A trustworthy mechanic is almost as rare and important as a trustworthy doctor.
