I won't tell you how I hook up my Generator to power the important things.

 

i actually have 2 different systems for gen..

extension cords get old.
Suicide cables work if your smart. Lol

 

Actually, what I do isn't all that bad. A neighbor is a retired Coast Guard electrician. Several years ago during an extended outage, he did/suggested the following.

He hooked up a dryer plug to my generator cord. When power goes out I kill the main power breaker. Then I start generator and plug it into my dryer plug. That puts power into the house and the dryer breaker serves as the main. I kill most breakers, but my generator will power the furnace/boiler and the fridge and freezer and some lights. Nothing freezes or goes bad.

I just have to check with neighbors when power is back on. I just do everything in reverse.

Must never turn main breaker back on when generator is hooked up.

 

Very common way of doing it..
But people are to Fuckin stupid so that’s why they make rules…

 

My whole gen setup cost me like $900 including the gen..
