A new Smuggler is pretty well confirmed. The question is when will Transition announce it. And more importantly, when will they actually have bikes for customers.

Still don't know the exact timing, but I'll likely order one the second it becomes available. A slightly beefier Transition Spur with 130/140? That's a no-brainer for me.

I got into a Banshee Paradox V3 summer of ‘21. With the way that my world was turning at the time I got it out of the shop the day before I went up to northern MI for work. I’m currently running 140 on a Lyric but I also have a 160 air spring. It’s a great all around bike, Most of my time on it has been in the NW Lower Peninsula. I brought it home last winter and rode as much as I could in GJ/Fruita area, and I took it up to Copper Harbor in the UP this summer. It was one of the best purchases I’ve made, from mellow single track, to flow/park, to chunky desert trail riding it is amazing. It is an amazing complement to my Devinci Troy, both have a pretty tall stack, long reach, and steep seat tube. I chose to take the HT on the road as my one do it all bike, and I believe I made the right decision.

    Edit: It’s got a 65 deg HTA.

Oooh what's the belt drive?! That sounds so appealing on a rowdy hardtail.

Let us know how it turns out! I'm always curious about different hardtail setups and would be interested to hear that more slacker is more better. Maybe I'd sell mine and build up something like that knolly!

Yeah I slam the fork downwards onto the stationary pipe.

My M820s seem to get a mineral oil glaze when they sit unused for months (there is no visible change on the pads otherwise). I keep thinking that the M820s are more prone to minute leakage around the piston seals but I have no proof.

I'm unsure what the actual tool to do this would even look like.
I wouldn't have done it on the ground had I not had that bottom axle holder for the fork to sit on.
The stationary pipe would be nice and easier to hit more equally.
I could've tried popping the top off the backyard chain-link fence post, but I think it's bigger than 1.5".

Sorry I was on on my phone when I typed that. I put the pvc pipe on the ground, turn the fork upside down with the race started/held in place. I insert the steer tube into the pipe, holding the crown/stanchions I slam the fork into the pipe. I do it this was so im never compressing the fork, or slamming the fork legs into something by accident.

Sounds like one of the simplest ways of doing it and I completely over thought the idea!
    Good stuff.

Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of running a resin/metallic combo? Have you had any problems with going through the resin pad quicker than the metallic?

Low BB, rocky terrain, and cold weather...

It's my only bike on plastics. Since I originally built the bike for wifey, she chose the pedals. I was just going to throw some Oneups on there, but was curious about the shape of the PNWs. $40 is a cheap experiment.

Most people run it to get the initial bite of the resin, but add some fade resistance with the metallic. Some metallic pads don't quite get to working temp too easy, so adding in the opposite resin gives them a better initial bite.

Fair enough, I can see the logic. Do you have to realign the calipers as you wear out the softer pads? I’ve only run sintered, figuring on longevity. I watched a buddy burn up a brand new set of organic pads on one lap down the Ribbon trail here, which swayed my opinion of non metallic pads.

They wear about the same so i replace them at the same time. Running the combo is a great all conditions approach. Rain or dry, you have good bite and minimal noise.

Sounds cool, my brother just built one of those this summer @140mm and seems to like it.

The belt drive is a Reynolds 853 steel Spot Rocker. Set up at the max allowable fork travel (130mm) it is a good all around SS trail hardtail. I have the new carbon version as well set up as my geared trail hardtail at the same fork travel, but am pondering swapping drivetrains between the bikes down the road.

Just signed up for the Whiskey off-road 50 Proof in April!

    Event Guide
Starting on Prescott’s historical (and lively) Whiskey Row and climbing into the beautifully distracting views of Prescott National Forest, riders will connect some of the area’s most exhilarating (and challenging) pieces of singletrack, double track, gravel roads, and the occasional paved segment.

Going to be on the trusty XC bike.. [IMG] ( this is going to be me on the final descent into the finish)
