That is 100% bullshit. Toyota care covers all that and it also goes 2 years 25,000 mi. Keep escalating this and keep on them. The second you back off and agree to whatever they say you've lost. They are blatantly lying and trying to cover their asses. Toyota care also specifies during inspections if they have rear drums, you don't put down a measurement, you write down rear drum so that it shows the tech looked and did not disassemble the drum to inspect it.

People can lose their state inspection licenses over lying about breaks, and this is no different.

No I'm not being a fanboy. Literally my job. Lol

This is what I don't get...these drums literally slide right off! But to tell me the truck has disks and pads in the rear shows me what kind of service writer/manager they are. At first I said "oh well that's the problem, the factory put the wrong axle under the truck! Please let me know when the correct axle with disk brakes is installed." And then they started back peddling! haha.

Pretty much the same. The temperatures just extended Christmas break by a day. I took next week off, too, but I know my phone is going to ring...

I checked on the chicken coop this morning, now I'm holed up inside where it's warm like a wimp.

They're easy enough to inspect, but a full Toyota Care service doesn't pay the same hours to the tech as those services individually, we actually lose time doing them. Hence putting "Drums" on the rear brake inspection portion of the sheet.

That being said, if a customer has a complaint about the rears, then of course we'll pull em and check em out. But good work ain't cheap, and cheap work ain't good.

So just got a call from Toyota Customer Care and they said that the dealer determined that installing the lift caused the damage since you "must remove the brake shoes to install aftermarket leaf springs and whoever disassembled the brakes assembled them incorrectly". I told the case manager that was not correct and that the brakes are not touched in doing that. She said that she is not a technician and she must rely on what the dealer says. She repeatedly said that the dealer is privately owned and Customer Care can't tell them what is and isn't covered. She then said that there was nothing else that I could do and that she is closing the case. She said the only thing I can do is report the dealer to Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc, Toyota Brand Engagement Center, PO box 259001, Plano, TX 75025. Not too sure where that will get me but she said Toyota absolutely will not pay to have my truck repaired whatsoever.

Anyone know what my next steps are? Not sure getting the MO AG involved would help since the dealer is in KS...unless I get both the KS and MO AG involved?

You need the shoes removed to install leaf springs!? Wtf? That is the dumbest thing I’ve heard… sorry you have to go through all this man! Hopefully one of the guys has something to help you with on this!

I actually laughed when the service advisor said that to me. I said, no...no you don't. Granted this is the same advisor who said I have disk brakes on the rear. Hopefully someone knows who to talk to!

This is why DP never went to the dealer for anything other than a couple of campaign recalls and even then I arranged it with the
Parts Manager and the Master Tech who was doing their frame recalls. It's amazing how fucking stupid so many of them are anymore.....

hope everything gets sorted man is the repair something you could just do your self or is it more into it?

It needs a new backing plate, brake shoes, parking brake arms and a hardware kit. The problem is the backing plate is only offered by Toyota and you have to press the bearing off the axle to get it off and usually mess up the bearing pressing it off the axle...so a new bearing as well. I'm looking at $175 for the shoes, hardware kit and bearing from rockauto and $158 for the backing plate and parking brake arm from Toyota. Plus the hastle of pressing the bearing on the axle shaft. I could have the job done in a few hours as I have a press. But the principal here is that Toyota does not stand behind their warranty.

An alternative is to buy a Dorman 926-139 for $412 and would only need to buy the shoes, parking brake arm and hardware kit. The backing plate and bearing would already be pressed on the axle and I would have a spare axle to keep for emergencies. Then I'm looking at $454 out the door.

Yeah, I agree with you that this is nothing more than trying to sidestep a job. One of the techs at Jay Wolfe told me my leafs were on backwards back when it still had
taco leaves.....amazing how little knowledge they have of their own product.

fully understand the annoyance and them trying to just get out of work is just sad and disappointing... but if it is cheaper to do it your self it might be the route to go since they have denied it fully which is completely dumb and plan to have you pay what 1500? and then tell you parts are back ordered for a month...

Have the dealer get into TIS and print out the repair manual for removing and replacing factory leaf springs. The procedure is the same whether they are aftermarket or factory. Then have them highlight and show you where the discs need to be disassembled in that procedure. If they can't do it, tell them they're lying to your face and you've talked to other dealership techs who think these people are full of s***.

Also, all Toyota dealers in the United States are privately owned. I don't know why she thought that was important information or why it would prevent Toyota from getting involved. That lady sounds like an idiot. If you want, what I'm back at work on Monday I will log into TIS and pull up the repair manual for a replacing taco springs. I'll see what my options are as far as getting you images or anything like that. But this is ridiculous. That dealership is just trying to cover bad. Workmanship is what I'm seeing. Especially because they told you you had discs on the rear of your taco

Toyota does stand behind their warranty. This dealership is yanking your chain because they don't want to have one of their techs written up by Toyota.

To be fair, Jay Wolfe is shady no matter which city they prop a dealership up in.

A MasterTech recently left there St. Louis Toyota dealership and came to us. He's got some stories about his boss and service writers telling them to fudge things over or to cover up bad work. Baffles me. Fix it right the first time
