We spent $10K to add a half bath in the basement. Plumbing was a major part of that as the contractor had to open the floor and then the plumber installed a new soil pipe. Then connected the vent to the existing vent. Framing, electrical, dry wall, paint was the rest.

    Expensive, but worth it.

For an inground, you might almost be better to buy another house.

I thought about it when I got my pool in 2011. Started in the 30Ks plus digging up and relocating my septic.

Buying a house with an inground would be my move bc it doesn't really add value, plus when I eventually move south they're common.

Started Oct. '21, finally got finished April '22. He took me a bit too literally when I said "When you get to it."

My son built a house in SC just at the start of the pandemic. Decided last spring they wanted an in ground cement, salt water pool with heat.

No diving board, not over about 5 feet deep. I forget the size, but I'd say medium.

Anyone want to guess how much they spent?

Around here by the time you do a nice patio, fencing, etc you can be pushing 100K. Should be cheaper in the south though.

Oh were you there when my parents payed for their pool :)
    upload_2022-12-22_23-43-14.jpg
I know down south the same pool was $30k pre covid as we had a friend put in a CRAZY pool with a grotto, waterfall etc that was 1/2 the price.

Nope, letting Mother Nature take the wheel. 60 mph winds and torrential downpours ought to self clean those puppies!

Yeah problem is around here it's yard or pool. Anyone who puts a pool in takes up their yard. We ain't got the acreage for that. My plot DOES, but like you said you drop 50k in a pool for 5k property value.

We'll see. I don't think they're worth it around here.

He said small, but cement, salt water, heated. The heat depends. Might be easy if the hookups are there but if you gotta run gas/electric to get it - that's an added cost.

When exactly was it? Spring 2021 or 22? I think either way we're already in banana land.

    I'll say 55.5k

Nah neighborhood of 50 nowadays is a good guess.

But also in S.C. so you're not paying the ridiculous MA inflated prices for the install.

Pfffft pool(s). I was a pool boy when I was married. Only way I stayed sane was to get a divorce. Ph this ph that. Too cloudy . Just right. Skimming leaves , pollen. Covers. That stupid ball thing. Ugh. it wasn’t all bad. Mind you , a pool ladder and some discarded bathing suits come to mind

Realistically I'll probably go a town or two over if I move. I'm not really in love with this town, but I'm not sure if a better neighborhood would help.

This school system's a school system best I can tell. My wife is an elementary school teacher so I'm not super worried about that as I feel like if there's any deficiencies she'll be the first to stop it and she knows the systems in place if we need to use them. I feel like if you have a typical kid and the support system in place they'll thrive no matter what.

I love my house, it punches all the buttons but I've had a specific rough style of house / neighborhood I've wanted to live in since I was a kid (what I had before my dad passed) so my hope is to go chase that. I refuse to be house poor, but I do see myself moving. We've made all the right upgrades to this house (bathroom remodel to studs, added AC, refinished all the wood floors, added solid core six panel interior doors, redid all the tile, modern countertops, redid our staircase, etc) so we've added a ton of value, I'm just kinda over the location. I don't love that my ceilings are only 7' and not 7.5' like a modern house and we have a small full bath and tiny closets, but I've got all the other things checked. I want my kids to be able to play without worrying about traffic as much as I do. If they want to ride bikes or use their scooters, etc, I have to go to my Mom's house or go down the street to where there's a big open bay building with a large parking lot. Our driveway has a slight slope and they don't know how to stop yet.

Sometimes the reputation doesn't match reality, too. In this area, one wealthy town is widely considered to have elite schools. In reality, they're a disaster. Only very recently have some of the issues gotten public attention and they're falling off their pedestal.

Work started summer of this year and was done by late August. Labor wasn't insane, but there was a good deal of lawn restoration after construction was complete. The electric and gas for the pumps and heat were short runs.

Total cost was over $60K including the patio. Since the house is in a slope, a good deal of work was getting the forms in place and poured. It's a very nice pool and they'll get a lot of use out of it.

Oh, he also bought an automatic pool vacuum. Sort of like an underwater Roomba.
