the Kinu grinder changed my camp coffee completely. Use it every day at home, and on camp trips..no more pre-ground coffee. totally worth the expense.

 

$300 for a corn fed grinder seems a bit pricy...

 

I use a MUCH cheaper hand grinder everyday, and although a bit of a pain on the really early mornings, it makes a big difference in the end product. I've looked at the nicer ones dozens of times but could not justify the spend......YET.

 

All about the good pour over! Hand grinder. French press makes my hands shake.

 

Aeropress or instant coffee, depending on how quickly I'm trying to break camp.

 

New article with legitimate research from Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne about the benefits of coffee, especially caffinated. Small peice of the article, "Researchers found "significant reductions" in the risk for coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure and stroke for all three types of coffee. However, only ground and instant coffee with caffeine reduced the risk for an irregular heartbeat called arrhythmia. Decaffeinated coffee did not lower that risk, according to the study published Wednesday in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. Prior studies have also found moderate amounts of black coffee — between 3 and 5 cups daily — has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, as well as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, type 2 diabetes, liver disease and prostate cancer."

The Smiley Face Guy delivered a package today. It’s a portable kettle for boiling water. I bought it with the hope I could use it on those days I didn’t want to pull the stove out and fire it up. It holds 12 oz of water, pulls 382 watts as can be seen on my EcoFlow Delta. 5 mins to boiling water. Aero press, French Press, Pour over, or instant. Unless you prefer Tea, Ramen, Backpacking, or Emergency meals. $40 Works great…might be a game changer. Especially with propane going for $5-$7 bucks a bottle. Will try it out using the outlet in the bed and let you all know.

Lately I've been bringing a bottle of this stuff with me. It is a coffee concentrate so I just add hot water to my desired strength.
I have a Lee's coffee near my house and they have a triple strength concentrate at their locations but I've seen this one @ Costco.

Trick we coffee drinkers were shown by the tea drinkers in the Afghan tribes we were embedded with. Coarse grind your coffee. Throw it in one of those stainless tea balls and good to go. Works in hot or cold water just time is the difference. Open it up bang it out throw it in the ruck when done and move out.

 

I don't care how old this thread is...I was a coarse ground french press devotee...and then my brother got me an aeropress...I use the inverted brewing...FANTASTIC cup every time...
I like maui red catuai coffee or of course Lions Gate kona...and the precise measurement of the scoop and water yields great cups with zero waste...and then popping that pressed disk of hard coffee into the trash with no spillage is a cathartic experience. I drink it black or black with 1 splenda

Those are very nice! One suggestion though, if it has a plastic window- get a glass one for it.

 

I have 2 of these in my RV. One for my wife's fu-fu coffee and one for mine.

 

French Press all the way for me. I pre-grind my coffee the morning before we head out and store into an air tight container in multiple batches.

 

That's some damn expensive coffee!

 

It is but there may be better options out there. I wanted battery powered. I wonder if I can find one that plugs into the truck bed that doesn't draw too many watts.

I've tried most techniques. It all comes down to simplicity. When I'm Off-Grid/Camping, I'm not enough of a coffee snob to care about the potential difference in taste across the various prep methods.

I Make my own single serve coffee bags using the coffee of my choice. All you need is something to boil water. No gadgets, filters, etc. to clean. Dunk & go!

I think I saw that BRC makes single serve coffee bags. I'll have to give that a try sometime.
