I have not had this issue but i had a front main seal go bad on me and they did replace it under warranty, but shortly after my warranty expired, my rear differential had a oil seal leak at the pinion and that was out of my pocket... should have been covered.

Lets face it toyotas quality sucks...why is it that the most reliable truck (supposedly) only has a 5year -60000 mile warranty when american cars have a 5- year 100000 mile warranty and some even have lifetime power train warranty!!!! That truly must mean their quality is questionable.

That being said i would trade for an older yoda or a american truck but that could cost me alot more than i want to spend not to mention the inconvenience of going through the buying process, reliability issues with buying a used older yota (most of them have been beaten to shit)... im a broke college student, if something breaks im out a truck...

I have worked for Toyota for 30 years and we have all our windshields and reseals done by an outside glass company don't know of any in our area who do there own glass work.

Actually, during a recent windstorm here in NJ, I experienced it as well. I was traveling around 60, and the crosswinds were probably about 40+. And there was the described loud kazoo sound.

So, yea, the problem exists, but only during certain circumstances. It was the first time In my year and a half of owning my truck that I have heard that.

In a nut shell: The manufacturer has made hoops to jump thru and if the dealer doesnt play the game then they would not get paid from warranty and have to charge the customer. Sometimes they get stuck in the middle and have to wait for the man. to open the flood gates. Not trying to justify it but I work for a dealer but also am having an issue with my squueky blower motor that apparently they cannot verify. Basically the 3 c's. Confirm, cause and correction.

I just want the vehicle to work as it should. I just came from a 2006 jeep wrangler lifted on 33's so I don't think I'm being too picky. I have always driven trucks and jeeps. Not one of them had a whistling windshield and I have NEVER had to fight with a manufactuerer or a delaer for ANYTHING.

I already live pretty close to oceanfront so I'm good. 15k is what I would take to not complain about warranty issues. Thats my price, we all have one. And, the truck is pretty much worthless to me right now so I think I'm offering a pretty good deal. In fact I will seel it to you for 40k I will take paypal.

Nissan frontier tops it out at JDpower, followed by ranger.. but yea, tacoma is at the bottom, where it has been for years.

Why do people say toyota's are supposed to be reliable (vs anything else) didn't you guys get the news back in like.. 1995. NUMI was a gm trick to kill off toyota. Takes a while for the reputation to get around.

And yea I'd be driving a GMC if they weren't $50k.

I have been going through their process for about a month and have not said one harsh word to them. I am a very easy going person however its extremely frustrating to drop a wad a cash on something that you really think is going to be a great purchase and then find yourself in this prediciment. I'm a bit of an idealist and believe in right and wrong good and evil. This is not right and I have a difficult time understanding how a company who sells a product especially one that costs what this thing cost me can turn its back on the people who keep the company in business, the consumers. I wanted to love this truck and be enthusiastic about it but I cant. The sad thing is its not the trucks fault. Toyota built it knowing it was defective yet they are satisfied with that. That is what will put them out of business down the road if they dont A. make a good product and B. stand behind it.

I bet if you take it to a good windshield guy, he can take your windshield off, seal it really good, and put it back again for just the labor! I think it would be worth it to you so you can get this annoying problem gone!
    Good luck!!

If you opened an 800 contact with Toyota in Torrance the dealer has 3 days to respond to them with a fix. Have you spoke with the customer relations manager at the dealership where you bought the truck at and have they got involved. If the noise is like the noise in the video someone posted then it is definitely the seal around the glass. In my post number #35 is the method I use to eliminate the windshield glass seal when chasing a noise like this. You can ask for the the district parts and service manager in your region to take a ride with you so they can hear it and get them involved. He won't go 90 mph with you but past experience it's a cross wind making it make the noise.

I have a few options for sure and I am sure one way or another it will get fixed and I will love my Tacoma for years to come. But that is what manufacturers bank on. That you will just figure its easier to go away. I think as a Toyota owner we out it to them to keep them accountable. 5 years from now I want Toyota to be better than ever and making awesome products for us. I don't want to have to be a "I used to own a Toyota, but then I wised up and bought a ....." type person. I am looking for a brand I can take pride in and be the guy out on the trail with the jeeps and nissans who everybody is telling, "man I shoulda got a Toyota!"

JD Power initial quality or reliability? Honda Ridgeline is the most reliable, but neither of us would want one. The Tacoma is better than the Frontier or the Canyon/Colorado in reliability. As for the Ranger, Ford had 12 years to fix the bugs...

Keep taking it in for the same complaint until you have met the minimum statutory requirements for lemon law arbitration.

best idea yet ... a guy i knew in college had an 01 s10 he bought new .... kept blowing o2 sensors and since he was young the damn dealership wouldnt give him rentals.

eventually he got it lemon lawed .... and bought a ranger to replace it ... havent talked to him in a few years but he loved that rig (hell i loved mine too but the tow rating sucked)

That's weird. The problem is it's so damn hard to pinpoint the exact place and cause of a noise like that. Okay ... windshield. But where?! Would a new seal fix it? You said they resealed it, and it didn't. So perhaps the cause is something else?

Do you have access to a stethoscope? Can you have someone else drive while you scope around the windshield and dash to see if you can pinpoint where it's loudest?

Another thing you might try is to get a roll of 2" painter's tape (so it doesn't leave a sticky residue) and tape the entire windshield edge and seal on the outside. Then go for another freeway drive. Does the sound go away? If it doesn't then it's not the windshield seal.

When I bought my 2010, it's windshield sounded as if it wasn't seated right, as there was an audible whooshing sound coming in at freeway speeds. I could never tell if it was the windshield or the passenger side door seal along that front edge. But after a couple thousand miles, everything settled in, and it went away.

I understand wanting everything perfect on a new truck. We shell out a lot of money for these things. But I can also understand the dealer's take. If they did in fact reseal it once, and it's still making that sound, they're probably as stumped as you. So the more info you can provide them, the better. Can you pinpoint an exact cause? At least try the tape idea.
