At -18°F for the overnight low and gear guard off the truck lost 4% and 9 miles. I don’t think I’d call that good but it’s at least a fairly manageable number.

Yes, about 16 hours between when I parked last night and when I checked this morning.

The Rivian looks a little like a barge on wheels.

Not that simple clean lines are a bad thing.

It will probably sit for another couple hours before I hitch up the trailer and head out.

Curious what consumption you’ll get. I think you have a comparison point with “normal” weather too right ? While towing that is

It’s gonna suck probably. Normal temperature towing is about 1mi/kwh. It’s going to be about 10-15°F today so I’m expecting probably .75mi/kwh.

I'm suspecting battery management updates help increase range.

I don’t think anything changed to actually increase range, I think they just changed the way they test and report it. My truck still thinks it has the same range capability as it did when I drove it home.

So for long term parking, say at an airport, is keeping it on a charger an option or would you be better off getting a ride service?

Just thinking thru if it sat for 10 days losing 5% a day, you'd either need to park it at 100% or hope your drive home was close and with no unexpected delays.

You’d probably want Gear Guard on, if you’re long term parking at an airport, which would consume more.

There are parking options with charging for EVs at most large airports now. In Denver there are spots in the parking garages with plugs and some private parking shuttle lots with plugs. I left mine in the cheap shuttle lot for a couple days in September with gear guard on and lost about 2-3% a day.

In warm weather I got .84mi/kWh towing the trailer this same route. Today I drove to my work (about 1.5 miles) to take a shower and the truck was in turtle mode due to extremely low battery temperature, only gave me about 25% throttle. While inside showering I ram the trailers generator and plugged the truck in so it would warm the battery up. That did the trick and I had normal power available again when I came back out about 30 minutes later.

Comparison of energy use with heat on and heat off. I didn’t do anything fancy like driving the same exact route twice, just turned off the heat and reset the trip meter halfway home based on time. It was 9°F outside and I left the seat and steering wheel heat on for both.
