Just started working at the local Township Highway department. Was in corporate for 28 years. Got my CDL-A a few months ago.

Hey guys, love seeing the posts in here. I'm at a place where I need to make a career change and not sure where to go. Would love to hear some of your thoughts if you were 27 years old.
Straight out of school (business administration, econ) I went to work for a federal contractor. Mostly did business development, wrote bids and proposals, worked with vendors and customers etc. It was a small company so I wore a few hats, it was pretty fun and I learned a lot and sold some pretty cool gear. Got out of it at the end of 2022 even though it was going pretty well for me because I wanted to move back to my home state of Washington, and because we were getting involved with some things that didn't sit well with me personally. Last year I started as operations manager for a 3rd party logistics company and it's been a shitshow and my position got eliminated. Rather than get laid-off I changed to sales, but now I need to find something new.
I like cars, baseball, making cool stuff. Outdoorsy stuff. Wouldn't mind something more physical, sitting at a desk all day is kind of a drag and I'm decently strong and my mile time isn't terrible. Been applying for operations positions, but I wouldn't mind hearing what you guys do. Would like to be at least $75k, I was making $90k as an operations manager but I get that you need to work your way up in a new industry. I can actually do full-time school or training since I moved back home.
    Pic of my Tacoma..

Find your passion and go for it. I was in the corporate for for 28 years with the same company. I was let go for a second time in 12/22. Decided I was done with corporate, got my CDL Class A(manual) this past October. Got hired at the local highway department in November. There’s about 22 of us, I’m probably the 5th oldest guy here(54), lowest guy in seniority list. I’m outside everyday, did 76 hours last week, absolutely exhausted but I was able to keep up with the young fellas, busting each others balls all day and doing physical work like I’ve done in the last 28 years. I can retire with full pension in 10 years. I took a dam big cut in pay, which sucked. I was able to afford it because my kids are on their own. I guess my point is, doing something you are passionate about. It took me a long time to figure that out but I can tell you I don’t hate going to work anymore and I’m in better shape now than I was when I was 35. This is a long response, oops. Good luck.

I own a small painting business. Mostly outside stuff in the Adirondacks. In the winter we do commercial epoxy floors.
