The heat in my truck is warm, not hot by any means, all my other Toyota's have had really hot heat. So yesterday I flushed the heater core, it was actually clean, the heat is a little warmer. Guess I'll change out the thermostat next. Not sure the t Stat is the problem, my temp gauge runs where it's supposed to be. Also, the passenger side vent, at the door, it blows cool air, not even warm, even when the heat is on. Any idea why that vent blows cool?

The heater core could be partially clogged and not getting enough coolant. My did that. Would never get hot which really sucked on cold mornings. Put in a new core and all is good.

When I flushed the core yesterday, it flowed as it should, don't believe it's partially clogged. Plus there wasn't any trash or rust pieces in the bucket when I finished.

Like some others recently I also received the p0303 check engine code. I changed the spark plugs with OEM plugs and cleaned the coil packs. I may need to change cylinder 3 ignition coil soon. The others seemed in really good shape. I don’t think my Dad ever changed these plugs since they are denso. 199k miles. Got the oil flushed and changed. Also cleaned the throttle body while I had the plenum off.

Did the light go away? I had just changed my coil packs before the accident. I took them off and returned them so I don't know if my light would have came back.

yes, sorry light is gone. The truck is running great now. I’m just suspicious of that dirty ignition coil. I should probably replace all of them soon.

Looks like leaky valve cover gasket. Seems to be baked on oil

I am also worried about that. I didn’t see a puddle of oil in any of the holes. That cylinder 3 plug was not torqued down at all. I was able to thread it out by hand. Could that loose plug have something to do with that? Or more likely it’s the valve cover gasket?

usually loose will be more of a sooty mess. that looks like baked oil. but its a picture.. usually the smell sets the two apart

Then most likely an air pocket in the system still.

Did you do a full burp of the system?

I did. I even filled the core up with coolant before I put the heater hoses back on, then ran the truck with the radiator cap off, for about 10-15 minutes, well past the last air bubble.

Kid’s home for Christmas, and conveniently his alternator went out just after arrival. Replaced that in the driveway this morning. Fun to work on the 1st gen w him.

I wish I could Like this post more than once. So many fond memories of dragging my car to my Dad’s for service. Never did hold that drop light correctly.

It’s super awesome to share with him. He’s able to do most things solo now, so when I get to work with him it’s really cool for me.

Gotta clean up the fender flares... But I reached a milestone

    Caster is set
    Toe is set
Chamber is close, but won't know for sure until I set ride height.

Have to clean up the fender flares for sure... but full stuff and lock to lock is clear.

Not sure yet. Waiting on the parts to build the CVs so I haven't set the limit straps yet.

What psi is a common number to run on bump stops?

    20221220_211611.jpg

Fox shocks are 200 psi... but I can't find where they specify a number for their bumps.
