"Looking for a varmint gun".

As the title says, I'm looking for a varmint gun. Specifically, a 410 .22 over and under. Remington, Stevens, Savage... Any make will do! Pm me if anyone has one or knows of one for sale. It's a present I'd like to give my dad. Thanks.

 

I have always wanted to buy this 410 shotgun...Its a lever action (which is awesome) Marlin...a little expensive but I think its cool check it out!

my parents just bought my little brother a gun, It has changeable barrells. Its got a .22 barrell and a 410 barrell.. its a neat little gun. I cant remember who makes it though.

 

I thought varmint rifles are the same as tactical rifles nowadays, depending on the varmint having 2 legs or 4 legs?

specifically what you trying to shoot? . . . you'd be very surprised at what a cheap ole pump bb gun will do. . . killed a squirrel with one pumped up 5 times last week. but as for semi larger, longer distance game my marlin .22 is great. semi-auto, holds 17. jams some if you don't lube enough, but awesome and accurate gun. . . also, pricey yet fun - the ruger 10/22 is excellent for everything. from 10 ft to 150 yrds ive always had a blast with them. my crack shot roommate in college could hit a trap in the air 4 outa 10 times (don't gimme the worthless with out pics, believe me or dont! lol) with his. had a bull barrell and a nice (cant give specifics) bushnell scope.

Used to have a super varmint gun ... Sako 22/250 w/bull barrel and 6x-18x Redfield ... I really miss that gun.

Had it hot loaded with 52 grain Sierra hollow point boat tail at a little over 4,000 FPS ... it was as fast as a 220 Swift or a Hornet.

I wouldnt consider what you are looking for to be a varmnit gun.

varmnit gun usually = heavy barrel .223, .308, 22-250, .243 with a nice scope and shoots very tight groups, and is good at 100+ yard shots.

 

17 HMR is an awesome vermin gun. high velocity, highly accurate and longer range than a 22.

Henry makes a cool lever action, my uncle has one. He shoots turkeys with it. hit them in the head at 50 yards

 

x2 on the .17, Ive heard really good things about the savage model 93R17. they are around 250 with a wooden stock and are suppse to have very nice adjustable triggers.

I use to shoot whistle pigs with a marlin .17 and it was very accurate

 

Have a pump .177 daisy pellet rifle and a .22 pump pellet pistol. Rifle works better at varmints.
Pellets are better than bb (very little ricochet) and might work better than a fire arm.

Between Boots the cat and Charlie the dog few varmints hang around anymore.

 

marlin makes good a good 17 with a bull barrel. watch vieos on youtube of people hitting targets at 150-300 yards.

 

.17 FTW bought a cheap savage and love it to death. Does a hell of a job on coyotes.

 

If coyotes are in your definition of varmint I would suggest a super fast and hard hitting 22-250. The Remington 700 series is one of the best. If you are really serious about it you will spend about the same on the scope as the rifle. I did the many hours of research and actual shooting of rifles before I bought my Remington 700 VTR in 22-250. I felt the .223 (which I own) doesn't quite have the flat range and punch, although the ammo is cheaper. I also like the .243 as a varmint gun but it was too heavy and loud for when I hike a few miles. My buddy has one that he uses when we go together and he wishes he had a 22-250. I can shoot the 22-250 without ear plugs and it's light enough that I can carry it for longer distances.

I have a Remington 700 VTR in .22-250 with a Leupold Vx-III 4.5x14x40mm varmint reticle. I also have a harris pivoting bipod attached to the front. I love Leupold's varmint reticle. My first dog was a lucky shot at 450 yards.

Springfield Armory makes/ or made an over under 22-410. I owned one for a while but it lost its appeal to me as the newness wore off. I never used it so it moved on. They were quite reasonable 200-230 in price and had a removable pin that held the barrels to the receiver so you could break it down and carry it in a pack. The top of the buttstock opened and was able to hold extra 22lr and 410 shells. The peep sight took getting used to but it was very accurate with some practice.
