Man, pricing on these is just insane, and they are still flying off the lot. It’s also the reason we ended up getting him a much newer ride than originally planned. I couldn’t stomach paying +$30K for a 2014 with 120K miles.

I had a series of late 60's ramblers over the course of a decade or longer. A couple other older vehicles mixed in there like this Commando. Great learning to turn a wrench and basic car maintenance skills.

I sold my prior vehicle to Carvana and they email me “Tacomas you may like”.

my favorite so far is a 2019 SR5 DC with 59k miles that just dropped from $41,990 to $39,990 I paid $41,646 for a new loaded TRD OR. I guess in 3 years and 59k miles I know it’ll be worth $39,990!

Back in the day when i was 17 and still in school working part time for this shop, the owner had 2 jeepster commando's, a red 1966 manual, and a 1967 tan auto, both with the little 225 cu in v6. They were fun little 4wd vehicles.

Are kids still into video games these days? There didn't seem to be the must have game system this year, at least I never heard of one. I think it's all games based on phone apps and the only thing kids want are phones.

When I became old enough to drive I think I wanted a modified VW, or a rally car from one of the Japanese manufacturers, Toyota, Mitsubishi, or Subaru.

Lucky him! My dad towed a 1971 Ford Maverick with 100K miles home with a bad head gasket. He told me to take auto shop in high school and fix it then it’s mine. I fixed it and drove it for 5 years until my sister hit a tree straight on.

His baby face does him no favors. Fortunately for him, he’s built like a bulldozer.

Everyone has their own ways of raising children obviously. Personally though, I am so glad my Dad made me buy my own 1st vehicle by myself (an ‘86 4x4 Xtra Cab Toyota pickup), after working after school and on weekends thru my freshman and sophomore years to save up enough money to buy the truck I wanted so badly by the time I got my license. It taught me a lesson that was far more valuable to me in life than the reward of getting a free truck just for being a good student, kid, etc... It made me value that truck (and all the other vehicles that came after it) infinitely more. It also pushed me to learn to be a decent DIY mechanic, because from day one I was intent on keeping that truck running as best as I could. And I know that carried over into taking care of everything I own better than I would have. And although I was a little jealous at first of all the kids that got free cars on their 16th birthday, that feeling soon turned to having pride in the fact that I did it myself. Dad knew what he was doing, and I will pass that lesson on to my kids as well.

Good first car. My first ride was a $500 Volvo, but looking back for todays drivers having some basic safety features is a must. I'd say a truck is going to be more forgiving than a compact car and if we are all being serious a Camry or similar class is going to cost just about the same.

Same here, although mine was an 88 blazer 2 door with 4.3L Taught me alot about fixing things in a parking lot at night. Comes in handy later in life.

It's still odd to make an account just to share the truck for his kid in front of his house.

Or, hear me out, maybe I had no reason to have a TW account until I bought a Tacoma. Just sharing a pic of my very excited kid and his Tacoma, with other Tacoma enthusiasts.

    It’s just a car, man.

I was the same way. I had to get a doctorate degree and then save up for 5 years before I bought my first new Tacoma recently. For my first car, I raised animals for 4-H for 10 years before I bought my 2000 ford ranger. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
