    Look and see.....
Good morning and Merry Christmas Eve

    2022 TRD OR 6MT

I have 5 matching wheels and tires and want to keep the 5th tire in the tire rotation schedule. I am told by Toyota that,
    1. The factory spare never came with TPMS
    2. The truck will not read 5 TPMS sensors without throwing a fault.

    A) Is this true?
    B) Whether true or not, does anyone know of a workaround?

    Oh look, another mod....
Answer to A) Yes, it's true.
Answer to B) No. There is no work around. Learn to live with it.

    You're welcome and Merry Christmas.

The only workaround is programming the spare TPMS in with TechStream or the Cartista app when you need it.

Easy to do, but only four can be active at a time.

get rid of the *!#$&!* sensors and use a $10 pressure gauge... problem solved.

Then have the TPMS dash lights on and a function on the instrument cluster that doesn't work. Not to mention may be not legal in some states.

That will "crash" the system, seeing two of the same ID#s.

2ND Gen TPMS will allow the same ID# to be used twice.

Why would tpms sensor be mandatory?

Nah. I’ll just look at the readout on my dash instead of having to get out and check all four tires with a cheap ass pressure gauge that probably isn’t accurate anyway.

Colorado tire shops will not install wheels without sensors on a vehicle that has TPMS.

some people dont need a gauge to know if the tire is properly filled.

Yep... i've had that light on for the last few years after my batteries died. just look at the tires now and then and check with a gauge occasionally. The sensors were a pain in the ass in the winter... the spare stayed cold and after the tires heated up it was enough to set it off the tpms light. So glad i don't have to deal with it anymore. As far as getting a flat with 10 ply e rated bfg's it hasn't been an issue in the 35 years i've been running them on various trucks.

I live in a cold province, what sucks about TPMS is the customers will bitch if it comes on after service.

They read usually 2psi lower than a 100$+ gauge, so we have to set a 29psi truck at 31psi? Right? No.

I have to set it to around 35-36psi in hopes that the dip over night doesnt trigger the light (and the customer). Then in summer it will read 42psi, super.

I hate tpms so much. Worse yet, its not law in Canada, but manufacturers just copy paste vehicles for us in KPH. Makes sense, but annoying.

Yep, it's a sad state of affairs now days when you can't even bend over to check the tire pressure with a gauge... are we not men?? :anonymous:

your fault for buying a cheap gauge isn't it? oh and btw that cheap gauge is probably as accurate as that tpms sensor. You don't have to spend a lot on a gauge to get one that's accurate, like less than $10 just more than a dollar...and if it's so much work to check your tire pressure...well I'm not going to say anything more but...that's pretty sad
