Don't know if this has been discussed previously but has anyone installed an engine block heater on the 4.0L? Does Toyota make such a thing or would I have to go aftermarket?

Yes. Go to (post) in the cold weather state/county Forums. Eg Alaska, Minnesota, Canada.

There's 2 options, the OEM block heater is modular and you drill a hole in the lower bumper. It's slick but expensive and non-reversable.

I'd recommend this, the zerostart is very close to the old OEM spec, you just need to make sure its routed properly.

    https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...zerostart-400-watt-engine-heater/zro0/3100129

It plugs in on the back of the engine behind the drivers exhaust manifold, it's a bear to do without a hoist. But doable.

i need this in Sacramento ca. it gets down to 35-33 degrees sometimes. too cold for me to get in the morning. with this, the coolant would be warm and heater would work right away.

My truck has an oem heater as well as oem heated seats.

Plug in is next to the driver side fog light.

    upload_2022-12-24_12-19-48.jpg

I’ve only used it a handful of times. Didn’t need it this past week when the low temps were -16, -23, and -26. Not wind chill temps, Actual temps. Wind chill was pushing -40. Although it was a less energetic crank than usual the truck fired right up without issue and reached normal operating temps within 7 minutes of normal driving.

Lol I know. I see people posting how it’s 20 degrees or even lower where they live.

I’m the type of guy that hates anything 45 or colder. But….I will go do 30 miles on a bicycle in 105 heat without issues. Love hot weather.

I live in Fairbanks, AK where it can get below -40F in the winter. We use the silicone sticky pad heaters and trickle chargers. Works fine for me

I've seen vids that show how to install them in a 3-gen, but mine is a 2-gen (different motors).
