Yeah, but what do facts matter?

I’m guessing prices will go up to reflect 1/4 of the set of 4 price when they are available in the Gear Shop though. So like $1285 on a 20” dark all terrain spare.

The wheel and tire I saw on the Rivian site was over $4k. Maybe that was for the set, I don't need them so I didn't look into it.

Well it was a picture of one, like I said I don't need them, didn't bother looking any further at what you get for that price.

Yesterday because of the wind some people lost power overnight. That would have sucked if they were traveling for the Christmas holiday, to wake up to an EV that didn't get charged as expected and couldn't travel to their destination.

The dumbest thing I heard all week was that the Ford Lightning was going to replace conventional generators. Wat? OBPP is a great option on an EV or ICE, but replacing a conventional generator? You can a generator in a lot of places you can't get a fullsize pickup to. What do you do with the Lighting when the battery runs down? Portable generators make way more sense, and run on fuel that is easy to transport.

Porsche SUVs come with a deflated spare and a 12v inflater.

The spare is “folded” and unfolds as you inflate it. It’s trippy to watch.

What do you do when you run out of fuel? The same thing you do when you need to go charge up your battery. Sure it takes longer, but it also should be able to run your house for days.

You might find yourself in a situation where you haven't had a chance to fully charge your Lightning. The power goes out so you use the truck as a power source, and the power is out for longer than the battery can supply power. Which could be very likely in freezing temperatures.

I wouldn't count on a BEV alone when conventional generators are easy to obtain. Pro Power is a cool feature, I don't think it's better than a generator.

You have it backwards. I’d rely on battery backup and use a generator as a backup to the backup.

$1285 for one wheel & tire? Tire Rack has 20” wheels that will fit a Rivian for $150.

    No, it’s $1285 for a 1/4 of a set of OEM wheels/tires.

Isn’t a quarter of a set the same as one wheel and tire?

Umm…I’d argue 15k is indeed much of a price difference. You can get a decent suspension, gears, tires, and you should already have at least one locker with a 52k Tacoma.

I had a sport so no locker, the only way to get an access cab with a manual - $40k truck, some mods with the supercharger being a large part of the money. $15k isn’t a lot to get good suspension, lockers and gears done.

Some one please change the subject line for this thread. It should be apple vs. orange.

I looked at those and most are the wrong offset and center bore. Center bore is relatively easy to fix with a hub ring but the offset not so much. For a spare I would’ve been fine with a no matching cheap wheel and tire. Since that wasn’t really an option I’ll just add the spare into the rotation to get my money’s worth out of it.
