what can u tell me bout Whistler. goin in august. where would you recommend staying where its close enough but affordable for 2 ppl.
and what must see?

hmm, no where is affordable haha, there is some cool bungee jumping, definitely do that!
and the mountain biking is world class! you can rent some pretty sweet bikes I'm sure, if you don't have your own.

 

If you are coming all the way from so cal i would recommend staying right in whistler village somewhere. That way you can make the most of the night life without worrying about getting back to your room. Do you mountain bike at all? Thats the big summer attraction, but there is also rafting, zip line tours, and other tours as well as golf if you are into that. No matter what you do just plan on spending plenty of money, Whistler is no place to go on a tight budget cuz the cash goes quick! You'll have a great time though! Beautiful girls from all over the world there.

yes its for mountain biking, bringing wife also, guess i better bring dark sunglasses. It i stay 2 miles away. are there shuttles available? golf? u kidding, rather watch tv.

 

There are free shuttles that run until late at night, all over the area immediately surrounding the village (not 2 miles though, more like a 1/2 mile radius). I've been taking winter snowboarding trips and summer mountain biking trips for a few years now, and this is where we always stay: http://www.greystonelodge.com/

In the summer, when we're not biking, we're rock climbing, there's lots of it up there.

Seems like you and Jdaniel1274 might want to get on the same thread since it looks like you guys are making a trip of it together...might make gathering information a lot easier.

 

Right on. Since you ride it'll be worth your time for sure man. Otherwise I think the rest is pretty lame. Lots of touristy shopping mainly. The riding is amazing. Im not sure about shuttles but there are taxis running all over the place. I hear ya on the golf thing man! You guys will have a great time.

Lots of people think the whole town is expensive, in reality it's actually not that bad especially in the summer. I've found places for my parents to come Visit for as low as $79 a night.....and it's not like there are any crappy accommodations.

I would say stay in the village itself if you plan on going out at night or won't have a car, otherwise the town is small so anything is no more than a 10 minute drive.

For must-do's you gotta get up a try the bike park if you have any interest at all in biking, Zip-trek is popular but a little touristy, getting up for a hike on the mountain is pretty sweet, check out some of the local lakes or do some offroading (if you have a truck), kayaking/rafting is pretty sick......that being said there are a bunch of things so it's really all up to taste.

If you have any other questions let me know, i've been here for 7 years now, and grew up a couple hours away.

 

Ooops didn't even see that. So ya bike park for sure, but make sure you check out some of the cross country trails as well. Buses run from everywhere in town and have bike racks, they'll cost you $2.00 from outside the village and free inside.

There are also paved bike trails from all the subdivisions leading into town so you don't even always need to take the bus.

 

Whistler dave. thanks for all the good input. checked out your link and found some hotels to my liking. i will have a car, do all hotels charge for parking, or is there somewhere to park for free?. also will my ATT cell phone work or will i need to buy a canadian version?

Some hotels charge for parking while others will include it. Typically it's about 10-20 bucks. There used to be a free overnight place to park but that is no longer the case.

As for the cell your ATT should work it will just default to a Canadian signal. I would avoid using it too much though because charges can get pricy.

Anyways if you narrow down a few places let me know and I can give you an opinion on which might be the best bang for your buck.

when choosing accomodation outside of the village, we have a .05% alcohol imparment level so if drinking is your thing stay in the village or take a cab but don't freakin' drive. If you are bringinging a 4x4 there are lots of places to explore. Depending on where you are going/coming I'd try to use the Duffy lake road on one leg of the trip. It's out the back door and takes you through a high mountain pass; all paved and beautiful. Squamish is well known for rec mountain biking but front suspension is a minimum.

 

Good call on the .05% comment, I imagine that would throw a few people through a loop
