    I got to do some digging but if the Artemis II orbit is anywhere close to Artemis I, then the II crew will be true pioneers…

    i think the Dear Moon mission is going to be on a free return trajectory. It’s a bit mind blowing to think how that flight will change all the participants (and commercial space).

    According to the above they’ll go 4600 miles beyond the moon on a lunar free return trajectory so no low altitude lunar fly by this time. Before leaving earth orbit they’ll switch to manual control and practice maneuvering and attitude control needed for docking. This will also be the big test for the deep space environmental suite and further testing of the deep space communication network.

    Elon-“Sure, show me the money.” There’s probably an excess of available missions for the existing fleet of crew dragons but if not this might require adding another to fulfill their current commitments. Until Dream Chaser, Starliner, or something other than Soyuz is operational Crew Dragon is all there is for options. And even when DC is ready for actual flight testing and cargo missions it will likely be going up on a Falcon 9 to start with. We’ll know more about Starliner in the next few months but even if it passes the next test phase it wouldn’t be available in time to bring these people down.
