I didn’t do it for him, I did it a month or two ago because I wanted to be stingy and not spend that much on a spare.

Using an EV as a power backup is more for the same people who buy them, they live in congested urban areas where you don’t really need it as a backup.

For the rest of the country that lives outside major cities they use normal generators and probably always will.

On board power is probably my favorite feature of an EV or Hybrid, and can't see any negatives to that feature even if it never got used.

I would use OBPP before using a generator where applicable. I wouldn't get rid of a generator in place of a BEV with onboard power, or consider generators to be obsolete.

In an urban environment you might not be able to get the vehicle close enough to power your house. You can get a portable generator a lot closer to where you need it.

What if you want to power your well pump? You might not be able to get the vehicle close enough to the well house. You would also have to leave the vehicle there. The portable generator could be left behind.

Just because the power is out doesn't mean you don't need to travel or use your truck, but when that's the case you also have to take your generator with you.

Curious, what does it cost to insure a Rivian?

I’m assuming it faces similar issues as my Teslas did … due to rivian only supply of repair parts they may be out of commission for a while, and face higher insurance premiums.
My model X plaid was $140 a month vs $85 for the taco. Model S LR was $150 somehow.

My Model S Plaid is almost $180/month. I’m guessing that being a truck or SUV would put it closer to the Model X.

It’s bad in Colorado, $230/month. I got quotes for some of my old addresses in a couple states to see whether it was the truck or location driving the price and it’s all location. WA was $115/month, AK was $100/month, AL was $140/month.

Do you have another car on your policy as a comparison point? As rates vary as described in your very post by state.

I think it’s about the same as yours, maybe $80/month.

Not now. The TRX was about $220/month and the Tacoma about $200/month. All for a guy with no accidents, claims and a clean driving record.

Well there are people out there advocating that other people stop using conventional vehicles, and outlawing the sale of those vehicles. Based on the misinformation that EV are the better alternative.
