Looking at getting a new 23 tacoma and trying to decide between trims. The only thing I can see on the TRD sport that I would like to have is the dual zone climate control. Just wondering if there were any other meaningful differences that would make the TRD Sport worthwhile. For reference I would be using this truck as a daily driver on the highway and city, no offroading/trails.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
If your single, the sport has a hood scoop (non functional) my wife fell for it ;)

The price difference between the SR5 and the OR/Sport is around $1900 in the same configurations, nice upgrade IMHO.

    My SR5 has dual climate.

My big selling point is the SR5 has a real key, not the push start stuff. I'm old school!!!

    Oh look, another mod....

You can get both trim levels with: LED lights, front trail cam, leather, sunroof, Dual Zone Climate control, RCTA, etc.. The main and biggest differences are:

    Sport vs Offroad

Scoop vs No Scoop (it's non functional)
Street tires vs Off Road (ish) tires.
    Stiffer ride vs Softer ride.

If you won't be doing any offroading at all, or very little, get the Sport model. Hell, you probably can get the 2wheel drive (cringe) model also.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

The Sport has a firm suspension and is fun to drive on the road, it is also available with a manual transmission.

I'd get the SR5. I'm still not sure what makes a Sport a TRD???????

Sport can be optioned with a manual and LED headlight/foglights.

I like the SR5 over the Sport and would probably just go with an OR. Larger rear, which is also on the sport with the manual, optional lighting upgrade, and black flares. If I'm buying a new truck it should be the way I want it.

SR5 Trail Edition that has the rear e-locker probably has the larger rear end as I presume it's needed to accommodate the locker.

It's better don't need a fob to start the truck. The column locks, and the truck can't be hacked and started and driven off by thieves.

I can't see the advantage to PTS, the first time you use it's cool but that's about it.

    What's better about it?

Proximity key with a fob for keyless entry and a standard ignition should still function the same way.

I have never seen a vehicle configured with PK and no PTS

This is why I chose the Sport. That and the fact it had a "Skewp".

Functional or not, I think the Skewp adds a nice touch.

But if you're on a budget, get the SR5.

From what someone mentioned on this thread, it's just under $2K difference between the SR5 and Sport...why not go for it?

The only add-ons I had from factory were the Floor Mats & Door Sills. ($38,803 MSRP)

I think punching an ignition lock was figured out with.... the first ignition lock.

Here’s a reason: $2k is nearly the cost of a shell, which is far better than the extras on a Sport.

    And that's fine!

    It's the beauty of decision-making!

To each individual...whatever benefits them...their call.

I just happen to enjoy my Sport and I'm proud to say it on TW.
