If you have to ask, you clearly don't want too and need others to justify YOUR thinking...
Get it, don't get it... Only you can know the reasons why itay oray not be best for you

As a guy who’s been in the car business for the last 35-years, and who currently works in a Chevrolet dealership I can say that the Toyota Tacoma beats the absolute crap out of the Silverado…even the Trail Boss, in resale value…if that’s important to you.

And yeah…I bought a Tacoma, but I bought it used from my dealership so it’s all good! I didn’t & don’t need a full-size truck…and the new Colorado’s just don’t do it for me.

I historically have a super short attention span when it comes to vehicles…so I know I will probably sell/trade the 2019 Tacoma I bought a few months ago, within the next year or two…so not totally losing my ass on the sale/trade is a factor. But if you plan to keep a truck “until the wheels fall off”, then buy what you want and live happily ever after. The Silverado Trail Boss is a very nice & very good looking truck.

It’s your money…buy what you want.

Excellent point about the resale value. So many will tout the resale value of the Tacoma in one breath, and in the next proclaim in blood that they're keeping their Tacoma until the wheels fall off or it rusts to pieces (which might be sooner rather than later...:boink:).

In the end, DRIVE WHAT YOU LIKE & LIKE WHAT YOU DRIVE!!! If someone else chooses a different truck than you, so be it; life goes on.

Yeah it's a good one, and the Tahoe in front of it will probably out last the Silverado.

I used to like my silverado too until the engine blew up. No more GM products for me.

There is a class action lawsuit applicable to most of the V8s related to the Dynamic Fuel Management , otherwise known as “cylinder deactivation”. Making the 8 cylinder engine run on fewer than 8 cylinders might sound cool, but it’s not smart for reliability. I have seen window stickers that stipulate (w/o DFM) and show a $50 Credit for not installing the microchip that controls the deactivation. The fuel economy is also listed 2 mpg lower due to absence of DFM. If I had to have a GM V8 I would look for the models showing (w/o DFM). Better yet move up to a 3/4 ton 2500 series truck. You could get the Duramax Diesel which doesn’t have the issue. I also read about a 6.6 liter gas V8 only available in the 2500 series that advertises “no auto start-stop” (another stupid idea for fuel economy) and “no DFM”. If I got the 6.6 liter V8 I would want to know the actual lifters can not be used in a DFM engine. I was unable to find that out talking with Dealers. These lifters have an oil port that is pressurized from a solenoid activated oil manifold, thereby changing the lifers length (my understanding) to keep the intake valves closed. I don’t have a complete understanding of how this system works except to know it doesn’t work well.

The only issue with that if you live somewhere cold is the trucks without DFM also don't have heated seats and steering wheels.

If you need a full sized truck, I wouldn’t buy one with known issues. From GM perspective I would probably get the 2500 with 6.6 gas or the 6.6 Duramax Diesel. Both my brothers have one; a Chevy and GMC, same Duramax Diesel and Allison 10 speed transmission drivetrain. They both tow heavy stuff a long way. No auto start-stop, no cylinder deactivation. No class action lawsuits. I hunt and have property with narrow logging roads. I don’t need to tow anything more than 10x5 foot trailer hauling topsoil or moving light stuff. The Tacoma suits my needs. You would abuse a full size truck driving it around my timber farm with logging roads.

It is nice to know that if something happens to it, my truck will hold value for that reason. Otherwise, I'm in full agreement. The 2 vehicles I've had to take a loan on I've said "pay for 5, keep another 5". My 2006 Colorado puking the head in the powertrain warranty plus the secret warranty and getting months of lies from GM all over after spending a fortune to repair it and having my truck held hostage is the reason I traded that in less than a year after payoff and the reason I'll never buy a GM.

Yup and I'm sure they told you it's your tough shit too

I'd hate GM under those circumstances.

Gm is a bit questionable these days -but so is every automaker lately... the stats prove this and my 21 taco proves this.... fwiw, aside from all of the other chevys my family has had with ZERO issues, high miles, towing too much, and offroading -my mom's (newest one) 2017 Silverado with the cylinder deactivation has had ZERO issues ....... you're best bet is to get something older -I recommend AT LEAST pre 2016 -but i would go mid to late 90's -everything new is pretty crap -utter crap -INCLUDING TOYOTA/TACOMAS (the most OVERRATED VEHICLE OF ALL TIME) .......Something else worth noting -check the company's customer service -only get a new vehicles from companies that have good customer service... its a new trend to not have customer service rendering your warranty useless -so for example DO NOT buy a ford or VW (this could include chevy now but i dont know -and so far toyota seems to be alright -fwiw) ......... Any who -just my 2 cents ... PS -to the fellow taco owners -dont get ur jimmies rustled by this -its just unbiased facts based off personal experience and data ... cheers!

oof... i feel ur pain .... and fwiw the 5 cylinder Colorados weren't great.... you have to get the LS or v6 vortec -or possible the old 4 cylinders if u dont care about mpg or power -LS for sure though -things last forever

I do. It was still in the general powertrain warranty plus their "secret" warranty so it's not like I was asking for something special.

The heads shit the bed in the 4 and 5 cylinder Colorados in 2004-5 and some of the 06s. Mine was a 4 cylinder.

I didn’t read all 14 pages, so forgive me if this has already been suggested. Buy motorcycle trailer for dirt bikes. Keep Tacoma.

yeah man the old Colorados were petty crap....my guess is it had a different 4 cylinder from the one im referring to -and i could be wrong -im referring to the ones they put in the s-10 2wd .... is that the same one they put in the Colorados? cuz i still see the 4 banger s-10s driving around with high miles
