    My cabinets were in good shape, just needed some perk. I'm really thinking about doing a tile backsplash if I can manage to score the materials on sale.

    I always prowl through the clearance stuff at Lowe's, they seem to have discontinued tiles often. If you knew how much you needed ahead of time you might score a deal.

    They have some 4" x 12" white tile for $0.89/ea and I could to that with some gray grout. That would compliment the gray cabinets and grayish blue walls nicely. Lot's of labor on my end for that, but all I got is time... :laugh:

    Including the Home Depot saw rental Im all in about $375 for this. Didnt go with the cheapest pattern tile, but not the most expensive either. I think it was right at $6 a sq/ft. Ive never done this before, but found it to be easy. I did all my cuts before I glued anything on the wall so I could get the saw back in time, doing it this way allowed me to cruise through it with a pretty good rhythm. Just held them all the wall temporarily with tape while I cut them.

    My 2 cents worth: If the pipe is deep enough and the connections are strong enough -- I would leave it as is with maybe the addition of another shut off under the home if that shut off would be easier to access than the buried one. Who the hell buries a shut-off anyway?
    for Future projects, you may want water going out to that direction.

    Do you have a floor&decor store nearby? I found that place to be cheaper than the orange and blue stores, and with a wider variety.

    First time, nice job! :bowdown::bowdown:

    I put an inordinate amount of time to make my sheet rock work look better than crap, wouldn't ever attempt tiles.

    This looks like the one we had in our basement when we moved into our home in 1972. Many of these had been converted to burn Nat gas by this time. If the home had one of these there also would have to be a "coal bin" with a steel door to the outside (24 inch x 24inch) Our present gas furnace and tankless water heater set where our coal bin was, and the space there the door was is now home to where our air intakes and exausts (for those two items) are located.
    I always thought our old coal furnace reminded me of the "apollo moonlanders"

    i would cut in a 'T' connector right by the black 90 going outside, facing up. run a pipe up to the ceiling, and then back into the sump pit, 2" below the cover. it would serve as an air inlet to break the suction, doesn't require digging up the yard, and absolute worst case if everything did back up it, it would just dump into the pit to be pumped again

    Get a good saw and the tile will go easy. Also dont pick some intricate pattern that chips way too easy.

    I now know why all the suburban moms diy the subway tiles and nothing else. That would be cake to install.

    What if the drain line became partially clogged with ice, etc?
    You could end up with most of the pump volume taking the path of least resistance back into the pit.

    He could drill through the wall and vent it to the outside, then in the clogged drain scenario the water would go outside the house, that could open the possibility of freeze issues in the winter however.

    For something like subway tile I'm just gonna get a dry cut blade for my 4 1/2" angle grinder. I'm just that cheap :laugh:
