Rear end clunking after Deaver 3Leaf AAL install

Just went out and pulled up on all 4 corners of bed. All corners are tight.

all 6 bed bolts are tight.

 

Hmm, could it be one of the shock bodies rattling? Maybe one’s defective? This is a weird one because if the noise started right after you installed the lift, there’s only so many things you touched obviously.

 

Yeah that’s the thing.

and I’ve removed the shocks, and still makes noise.

i am convinced the stiffer rear suspension has caused a rattle on the body somewhere…… that wasn’t there when it was stock

 

Went to go drive today and steering wheel is off by about 2+”.

measured and found out the axle is not centered in the wheel well. Pics are of rear of tire to rear of wheel well.

Wowwwww. Finally fixed the truck clunk.

Removed the rear toytec alumaseries shocks and replaced with budget 5100s…. Clunk is gone. And rides fantastic.

not sure WTf is up with these shocks but they’re internally screwed up somewhere I guess.

 

Great. I wouldve guessed that but you said a couple posts ago that you removed the shocks and still had the noise

Yep. I fucked up and removed one at a time during that diagnosis. Tells me that BOTH are bad. Wtf.

Well if it makes you fell any better I've pulled my hair out troubleshooting a noise in the front end that ended up being the shocks. Upper and lower bushings can fix the fronts if they're still good otherwise. At least with the 6112's which are a bit pricey but well worth it

 

Frustrating as hell. I get it. I’ve lifted dozens and dozens of Tacomas and 4Runners and never seen it. Welp just takes one.

 

Pull the drive line, and drive it in 4x4 and see if the noise is gone.

I had this issue on my old Toy 4x4 after installing a 4 inch lift. One of the U-joints did not like it. I went to P&P, got a front CV drive line, had Drive line service lengthen it,
and problem solved.

 

I was gonna say to torque the bed bolts as mine and many others had a clunk from those being loose. That said, did you figure out why the axle seems uneven? Are the leaves both seated all the way? I will say, I had the Aluma series and didn’t like them. No clunk but after going to Foxes its night and day both on and off road.

Centering pins were all lined up. U bolts re-torqued. Everything installed correct. Had re-aligned last week. Good to go and steering wheel straight. Tech said toe was a little off. Lol.

 

I have the same exact setup and I have the same issue. It’s a bummer when you spend $400 on shocks that clunk.

 

I don’t have experience with ToyTech and the Tacoma. I do have a good bit experience with ToyTech and my FJ.

I will say this, I had issues with ToyTech front coil overs making a clank or knock. Those didn’t stay on very long. They were removed, returned and replaced with OME.
