Seems like any GM back then that used Dex-Cool was absolute garbage, almost guaranteed to blow intake and head gaskets.

That is correct, different 4 cylinder between the S10 and the Colorado. The Colorado valve seats weren't hardened sufficiently and were letting go early, I heard of some as low as 20-30K miles.

That stuff wasn't any great shakes either but the Colorado and Canyon were not just blowing the gaskets, the actual head was croaking.

I think that was a wise choice from my experience. I came from the Silverado and I'm much happier with the Tacoma. Perhaps its just how I use it vs. how others would use a truck, but for me the Tacoma does everything and then some for me. The Silverado was just too much truck for me for what I use it for.

Went from a Tacoma to a tundra, back to a Tacoma... X 2. I loved the room and power of the tundra but felt I could get by with the Tacoma with what I was using the tundra for. Hated the tundra mpg. Now that I have the Tacoma I miss the tundra now and then. I think one of each would be the ticket!

Why would you even consider a Chevy/GMC product?

Worst reliability and resale of any truck brand.

Wife has the Silverado with the 6.2. So far it's been a great rig. It came with bumper to bumper lifetime warranty so that helped. Mileage, power & payload are great. Don't like the interior, probably because I'm partial to yotas.
As others have noted, stay away from the 5.3 -- dumpster fire.

What's the point of getting the trail boss model?

Similar to those that get the taco OR model.

Well, it's half the size truck.
I guess I think it's not the smartest thing when people wheel a full size truck, so getting the OR model to drive on the street, don't see the point.

    A few.
They are about the same length as the full size trucks from the 80s but about 4 inches narrower in width.
