The labor time to replace the engine is 21.4 hours nowhere close to 35-40. Its only 41 hours to rebuild the engine .

I am surprised with how many people would "Just trade it in". Let it be someone else's problem, WTF?

That depends, if it's trade it in at the dealer who has diag'd the issue then it's known. If it's trade it elsewhere and shut up that's maybe another story but I am not assuming either one just yet.

I traded my 2006 Colorado shortly after the head replacement. It might have been fine for many years after but I wasn't confident in it as a whole. In trading I showed the Toyota dealer the paperwork documenting the issue and the repairs done to remedy.

Am I the only one who doesn't see a speckle of glitter?

I had more glitter in my first oil change. Not that you should have much of anything after that.

The only thing that remotely resembles glitter in these pics is this. And these could just be bubbles/moisture.

I don’t see anything bad in those oil filter pics. I’d get that away from the stealership asap. If you can do work yourself, Add an oil psi gauge and see what’s going on. Drop the pan and see what’s on the pickup as well... if there is sealant on there you have a hard case against the timing cover repair being the root cause.

regardless, I’m betting you can find a local used 3.5 and have a shop swap it over for a few grand. Check car-part.com as well.

Then the "book" must have gotten a lot more generous than it was when I was turning wrenches for a living.

I had to reread this thread three times to keep track of everything this motor’s been through. I’ll ask one question that’s been asked previously but not answered, how long ago was the diesel fiasco? And to take it further…how long did you drive with the diesel in your motor, how did you discover it, and what did the “repair” consist of? I mean, I’m assuming you didn’t make it out of the gas station. How many other cars were impacted? You told that part of the story so casually…I almost skimmed over it.

Between the diesel and the head gasket I feel like you should be primarily focused on gathering evidence as to what the failure was and determine if there’s legitimate responsibility with the gas station, the diesel “repair” dealer, or the head gasket repair dealer. Secondary focus would be opening a case with Toyota although these aren’t the strongest facts, and tertiary thoughts would be to a replacement engine vice replacement vehicle choice.

Just wow. I wish you much luck in a successful outcome.

The assumption is the dealer will fix it. The vehicle doesn’t seem driveable

There is another thread that oil pressure dropped on a truck. I believe he joined them.

Nope especially since there's a good chance the next customer gets it ultimately.

I worked for a guy long ago doing building maintainence. In time I heard several unethical things about him, one was he unhooked the odometers on some of the company vehicles (none of which I ever drove or rode in). Reasons like that are why I left.

It was pretty much right when i got the truck maybe 10-15k miles. I made it about a mile down the interstate before it killed. It was the end of 2017, so about 5 years ago and 80k miles ago. From what I remember they dropped the fuel tank, clean out all the lines, etc... The gas station insurance covered the repair and some inconvenience money... maybe like $500 bucks. They never said how many cars were effected but it had to be a ton since it was a big truck stop/gas station.

I'm going to bring it to a private shop this week. Going to go down the calling the warranty and Toyota first then if that fails have a private shop look at it.

I didn't see a ton of metal but they were some small pieces for sure. It was hard to get a good pictures with the lighting.

Selling outright to an individual w/o disclosure would be dishonest.

Trading it in to the dealer where it sits is full disclosure and then it's their issue to deal with. How they chose to do that is on them, not the current owner
