Lots unless you have a business account with UPS/FedEx/etc. Expect $200-300+, especially if fully insured and dependent on where it’s going. If you have a shop pack it for you, add their charge.

It’s not tough to pack one, but it can be done poorly. I’ve packed several myself as well as had my LBS do it for me. Just depends on my time constraints. My LBS charges $85 to pack one for me. If I do it myself I get a box and any package supplies I can pilage from their recycling/trash pile for free. Again, just depends on my timeframe. Your LBS may play differently.

I’ve used BikeFlights exclusively over the past several years. Just did a round trip out west a few months ago. $175 each way for shipping, dropped off at UPS store and shipped to a residence, packed myself.

Expect considerably more if you go UPS direct.

Play it safe and pay a shop $50 to package. Insurance claims are more likely to pay out if needed. Especially if you're first time

Everybody loves to mention BikeFlights. But in my experience ShipBikes is a bit cheaper although at the moment they aren't selling labels (And there is an annual rebate)

    do it!

Gotta get it in when you can for sure... with the kids makes things a challenge...... go super early or late if you have to.

I had to just make it a weekly thing with a group ride 6pm Thursday Rain or shine...

    It's for mental health.

It gets better as they get older too. Get them stoked on the strider or the bike seats (like the Shotgun seat) and go shred!

Whipped out the file. WAO was so exact on their hole sizing that going from 5 mm to 5.5 mm hoses required some filing persuasion.

Of course no one took a file to their carbon frame without getting it okayed by WAO.

If that dang backordered Hayes bleed kit would come in I’d almost be in business.

    Like jjones said... just ride.
I ride in Big Bear, which is an hour & 20 (+/-) drive. The biggest hurdle is riding buddy(s) availability. I really rather not ride alone, for safetly reason mostly, but this year I probably will ride solo. Staring at my bike, waiting for better weather really has me regretting all thos missed riding days due to not having someone to roll with.

I hear you, I’d rather ride with friends but trying to co-ordinate can be a nightmare.
I ride alone and at night a-lot but make sure my wife and maybe a buddy know where I am. That way if I’m late she can send a buddy who knows where to look for me. Also, If I actually paid for Strava there is a feature on there to let people track you in your ride, my wife does that for me for her road rides.

I feel the same way, about riding alone. I usually ride with my son, but this year with high school sports it's been hard getting out there with him. I rode alone a lot this year and stuck to trails I knew really well. My wife knew where I was and how long it would take me to ride. I also wore my RoadID and let her know when I was heading back (didn't want her worrying).

I’m planning a hypothetical trip to st george/ hurricane for 3 full days at spring break time.

what are some must-ride mountain bike trails or must-do 4x4 trails y’all know of out there?

i think I’ll have someone to play shuttle driver who doesn’t ride bikes so that makes things pretty cool too

I’ll make sure to get over to Zion for at least one hike as well. Maybe camp a night right near or in Zion

Got to use the new xmas gift last night - a magicshine ray 2600 light. Put it on the fat bike and started off on the local fire roads, then once comfortable started doing more single track. What a wild experience; never ridden at night before and going solo was amazing. Pretty neat how quickly the eyes adjusted and comfort level went up as the ride progressed. The woods at night aren't intimidating to me, but the way the shadows of scrub brush danced around took a minute to adjust to.
