Here's a DIY kit I sell, if you're interested. Not too expensive, since you do the welding. Uses a combination of 1x1 and 1x2 for strength, and puts an RTT at cab height.

Since frame swap was in your head, this is how we do it on rust buckets. Effective, minimal stuff messed with in cab. Lift makes it easier, but this can be done like @Tour991 did with large jackstands or logs.

there is a brace across the fenders that holds the engine up, and ratchet straps keep the transmission up. Done right nothing shifts

Damn, you paying mark-up on steel?

I just made a large frame for a work bench having bought over 24' of 1.5" angle, and some +30' of 1.5" square tube...total cost of material was about $200 and some change.

 

Not all of us get sticks of square tube for free though...

 

1.5'' square is fine. What I made my first bed/roof rack out of. Worked great. Pretty much same design you have now.

I only used some 4' of that free 20' total; so yeah round up the cost of material to $225 give or take?

But a bed rack would be much smaller!

 

I know, was just busting your balls. It'd be pretty easy/cheap to build a bed rack assuming one has the cutting and welding tools handy. It's actually surprising how cheap steel is vs purchasing some of the products from name brand manufacturers of sliders, racks, bumpers etc.

 

Yeah, steel alone is stupid cheap compared to the end product...but the initial investment for all the tools is what gets ya!

Until a few jobs in, then the tools have paid for themselves.

So my 20 year old stock radiator is still running with no issues (knock on wood). I'm thinking about replacing it but when pulling up Denso's site I see this -
Given I've swapped to 4WD, would

$186 221-3138 Radiator

221-3138 be the one to order or just stick with 221-3136 (these are 6cyl part#s)?

Trans mount is due for replacement. OEM, (12371-07020) is discontinued. What are people going with? Whatever rock Auto has?

Should be fine with either. The shorter one won't hang as low below the the frame rails is all.

 

I'm not sure on part numbers, and don't have the truck with me at work, so I can't measure. But here's a picture of the last time I replaced mine. Almost positive it's the taller one.




Like @Blackdawg said, the taller one will hang a little farther below the frame rail, which could, in theory, make a difference with skid plates. Also, I don't believe the shroud will be right if you go with a different size, so keep that in mind as well.



Funny you should mention this... I've noticed a wet spot under the truck the last few days working on it. looked up at the bottom of the radiator, and yep, she done.

Also... yours was a Prerunner... which would be the same as a 4wd.

RWD is 5 lug

 

I thought about that... checked again and PreRunner selected, its the same part as the base option.

 

I do remember there a bunch of different sizes and stupidity with the way they have their radiators. That makes it confusing.

I'm almost 100% certain I just bought the taller radiator and taller shroud from O'reily's, last time I replaced mine. But that was when I was yanking my Champion piece of shit, so I had neither a stock radiator, nor stock shroud to measure off of.
