^ Ooooffff. Nice truck, looks like some nice mods! bases

We all have lived dangerously and taken some risks... Those stands; IMO not the hill to risk dying on (Add in the soft/gravel surface; bases shift slightly, shit can go sideways fast). Suggest something with pins [Updated] Taller version of Safe Jack "RennStand" or discount code?

Did you at least inspect the side welds and where the pawl engages? Doesn't look like you're under the truck and just rotating tires, but still man :deadhorse:

Not gonna lie, I have a few of the recalled stands in the garage too. I have 5 or 6 in total that aren't HF, so rarely even need the recalled units. Is it too late to bring them in for exchange?

I took my stands in, a d was told they needed the original paper tag as on them and readable part#. These things are 10+ yrs old. That's long gone

Just a tire rotation but the jackstands get inspected every time before I use them, in addition to giving the truck some serious pushing and pulling to make sure the truck is stable on the stands before the tires come off. The recall was not for failing welds (the replacement jack-stands were recalled due to the welds). The issue with these is the support pawl can disconnect and there isn't a safety mechanism (or pin like most jack-stands have) to keep the jack-stand from lowering.

Thanks. As for the stands, these are much more stable than a flat bottom jack-stand or bottle jack on gravel.

So you are aware they could fail and kill you, yet you keep using them.

You realize that you can die by driving but you still do it?

Please tell me how I would die if those failed if I'm not under the truck. Life is full of risk and those that live the longest don't avoid risk, they identify and mitigate it. I can guarantee that using these jack-stands is not even in the top 10 of the most dangerous things I've done in 2022.

Just to help the statistics here, I had one of the old school HF jackstands fail on me when doing an oil chg on a VW bus. I could slide out, but took the lesson to heart. In my case a tooth broke off the riser, it was not the recall issue. But it did help me choose when to cheap out and when not to in the future.

Sketchy indeed. I plan to keep using these until I get a lift and build a larger garage that give me room to work in (currently in the design phase in the garage). These stands are rated to 12 tons so there is an additional safety factor that someone using 3 ton stands on a truck with added weight doesn't have.

If I'm under the truck it is usually on the ground because there is enough room for most work. If the wheels do come off and I need to be under the truck there is more than just a jack-stand to protect me from getting crushed (I have some 10x10 beam scraps that get stacked under the truck or the wheels go under the truck). Regardless of how much is spent on a jack-stand, vehicles can still come off the stands and crush you so don't be complacent just because you spent more.

You guys would have shit yourselves watching me swap out two axles under a Scout supported by 4 Hi-lift jacks and nothing else. On gravel too.
I had the recalled stands, brought them back and can't tell a single difference other than color. Haven't died yet.

Does anyone know if badlands is only going to carry the 3 ton jack? I want a smaller one of it, but can't find any info or a roadmap about it.

I bought one 3 or 4 years ago (similar model, but older) and it is okay. Light output is mediocre with a lot of scatter. The newer models may have fixed this. I mostly just use my magnetic milwaukee m12 rover light(s) on the hood pointed down now. Much brighter light than the HF under hood that I have. Works great in wheel wells and other locations too...

I have this for under hood lighting. I’d say I prefer it because it can get into harder to reach areas than the larger light. And it had a strong magnetic base so it stays put. I’ve always found overhead light bars like that are only good if you’re working on easy to reach spots that don’t require a lot of light so they’re kind of good for general light rather than task specific. Once you lean into the engine bay, you’re likely to block the light and cast a shadow where you need to see anyway.

I have one of these, But I also bought the ICON Light which is Bigger and it is definitely Brighter. I had one of the Hood Lights a few years back that I got a Tractor Supply, When it quit I threw it away and I wont get another one for the same reason listed. It's above you for some tasks and once you are below it you are blocking the light.

If it's Harbor Freight lighting I recommend this. I have had mine for a while and love it. I do recomend popping the ends off and cutting notches around the inside, the light rotates when you hang it by the strings and cutting notches keeps it from spinning

Still gotta get some 3/8 hose but built a stand that rolls w some scrap, raised it 6” I think and put a filter on it. Got tired of hunching over and don’t like buying psc1000. I figured it was worth it.
