Hi all. I’m in this new part of the forum because I recently rolled and totaled my 03 Tacoma. Very sad. But it did it’s job and I am unhurt. Now I am in the market for a new Tacoma literally 20 years newer than my last one.
I looked online and noticed there are all kinds of variations with cab size, bed length and transmission type. (What I am most interested in)
There is no variation that I saw with a double cab, manual transmission and a 6 ft bed. I thought that was kind of strange. Can anyone confirm if I’m wrong? Is there really not a desire from folks to have that set up?!

    Oh look, another mod....
You are correct. If you want the Double Cab AND the 6ft bed, Toyota only offers it with an automatic transmission. No matter what grade it is: SR/SR5/Sport, etc...

Desire isn't the issue, it's just simply not offered by Toyota. If you want the long bed and a stick you gotta get the small cab. As a new owner of a DCSB I can say that I was hesitant with all the complaints about the AT, but it hasn't been bad. If you understand why it's being shift happy to hold the power band, use ECT, or manually select the highest gear with S mode, it's a pleasure from what I hear. I personally haven't had to do any of these things and it has performed totally fine for me. To each their own I suppose.

I wanted a DCLB 6MT as well; obviously didn't happen. To me a least, the desire for a 6MT outweighed the desire for a long bed, so now I'm rockin' a DCSB 6MT and couldn't be happier. If/when I actually need the full six foot bed I'll just pop for the bed extender and put it in.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
It seems that manual transmissions are slowly disappearing from all brands.
I graduated (after 15 years with a 6 speed manual, '06 TRD OR AC) to a '21 6 speed auto. While at times I miss the clutch, overall I'm rather pleased with my TRD OR AC auto. The biggest challenge for the transition is the learning curve for me (and for the truck) with the auto. Once you understand why it shifts seemingly more frequent than I would have with the 4.0V6 manual, it (and I) have adjusted. It really has to do with the narrower torque & power band on the 3.5V6 engine.
I much prefer the shorter wheelbase on the ACLB (same as the DCSB) and would not want the longer wheelbase that the DCLB has.
You really need to evaluate your need (or desire) for the larger cab if your sight is set on a manual transmission. Keep in mind that the clutch is vastly different from 2nd gen and will require some getting used to. At least that is my take from hanging around TW for many years.

I had older 4wd toyota compact pickups with the manual. After owning their automatics i can't figure why anyone that drives on normal asphalt roads, especially in the city would ever want a manual. The auto in my sr5 v6 works slicker that goose poop on a wet lawn.
