I was wondering if anybody knows anything or has any knowledge on swapping a tundra rear end onto a 99 Tacoma, mainly if it’s possible and if so what hurdles/tips would you have. Thanks.

    What year tundra?

First gen tundra? Complete axle or just the third? The first gen tundra third is a 8.4"

Either way, it's possible if your tacoma is a non elock or you want the whole axle. You'll need to change perch.

Preferably a 2000 just to keep the times as close together as possible but it’s not an elock and I would just take the entire axle, with the front end kit I have on it it’s wider in the front and I don’t mind the look it would definitely be a cool swap though.

Yep 00 tundra rear axle will work. If not, any t100 will be good as well. Both are 8.4 with 66wms iirc. Same concept, you need to change the spring perch.

Okay awesome, thank you so much. Will I have to custom fabricate a spring perch or are there possible kits online?

This *rear axle swap* might not be something you're capable of doing. Hit up Google and do some research, plenty of info and parts on the web.

Agree. If he can't find perch, he shouldn't be swapping axle. I heard of you use JB WELD, it's stronger than mig or tig . Is this not true?

    IT'S NOT EVEN FRIDAY!

Many different offroad manufacturers make toyota perch. There's even perch that don't require ubolts. It's how you ask make it sound like you don't want to research and just want the information provided.

If researching is complicated, don't attempt the swap. Pay a shop to do the work. Finding a good used axle more likely will require a full rebuild (I would, unknown mileage and condition), cutting and cleaning the housing, buying the right perch, setting the pinion angle, setting the perch and tack weld it on, and pull it off to weld it completely. It's not an easy task your average Joe Blow can do without speciality tools.

Well, that sum it all. Hope that help OP. It's not easy to swap rear axle. Take a lot of work, must be patience, and have good tools with special tools to get the job done.

Yes, it's possible and been done before you. Lots of folks run different rear axle from Toyota to domestic, even custom housing.

Without taking shots at your ability to do an axle swap- what's the reason you want to do this swap? Going Long Travel up front and trying to match the width in the rear? Or easy access to a tundra axle and yours is rusted? Really LT would be the only reason to do something like that, otherwise, just save yourself the complexity and find a Tacoma axle.

Tundra rear matches the width of the LT front without having to run spacers. It's a decent option on a budget. But if you're running hard a custom 9" setup might be better than spending a bunch of money trussing and building a JY yota axle.

Go full send with trailing arm, 16 COs, and custom rear end. I like that.

    @LdogH

Did you install your front end LT kit?

If so, you'll be able to do the front.

If you couldn't, you won't be able to do the rear.

    That simple.

Didnt mean to seem like I was lazy, I was just genuinely curious I did some more research after hearing it was relatively doable and I appreciate y’all giving me a bunch of advise and what not, thanks.

    Welcome to the Forum !!

It just seems as of late we have been getting far to many new members that seem to want everything done for them.

Always try and do as much research first that will you allow you to ask more detailed and specific questions.

Then your profile page gives little information about you . Maybe changing oil is beyond your skill level at this time. Then again you might build Transmissions for Top Fuel Drag Cars as a Hobby.

Hang in there it should get better.
