Usually those type of messages come in the form of a friend's hacked account sending me a message telling me to type in my Facebook password in order to see a video; I have never fallen for one of those scams.

    @wilcam47

My best friend John plays guitar in several bands, and he is the younger member of one of these bands. The drummer/occasional singer is an Air Force veteran in his 60s. He is not particularly tech-savvy and first got a Facebook account maybe five years ago. Whenever he got any kind of chain letter or "copy/paste this to your friends" via Facebook messenger, he would forward it to all of his friends. This became incredibly annoying, and numerous people had to tell him to cut it out before he actually did.

One of my friends from when I lived in Washington (state) got a traumatic brain injury in a car wreck in the 1990s; I met him in 2000, was friends with him for the two years we lived in Oak Harbor, and reconnected with him on Facebook in like 2017. He would send me various chain letters and copy/pasted messages, despite repeated requests to stop, and I finally had to block him from sending me messages. We are still friends on Facebook, but I haven't chatted with him 2017 or 2018, and I haven't seen him in person since 2002.

I can't 100% figure it out. Nothing particularly horrific or traumatizing has ever happened to me, but I have lost count of the number of times since about 1996 that people have started shit with me for no particularly good reason. I've never been beaten up, I've never been arrested or even ended up in handcuffs, I've never been banned from anywhere. A lot of it has to do with the fact that I have autism, and not everybody understood the various quirks of autism. None of that was my fault.

From 2009 to 2016, I had a lot of negative encounters with people because I took pictures of random stuff (cars and HVAC equipment mostly), but after a guy who I believe to be a combat vet with PTSD tried to take my camera when he caught me taking pictures of his GMC truck in a public parking lot in 2016, I stopped those activities.

Unfortunately, I believe a lot of the hostility I encounter in person is the result of me being a very large white guy; I am incredibly nice, but unfortunately people enter that fight-or-flight mode because I am very large, and quite intimidating to people who don't know me.

Once, when I was 14 or 15, I threw a fit in public when I was with my grandmother and her friend. I know that it was at an ice cream place in New Hampshire, but I don't remember what I was so upset about. My grandma has know about my Aspergers since I was diagnosed, and had the situation under control. Unfortunately, a man witnessing my meltdown didn't know the situation or that I had autism.

It was only in the car on the drive home that my grandma told me this guy behind had gotten into position to grab me, likely because he thought I was going to hit my grandma; I certainly wouldn't have hit my grandma, and nothing ended up happening, but I guarantee you that if a strange man had just grabbed me it would NOT have ended well. I would like to say once again that I was 14 or 15 when this happened, with the maturity of somebody 10 to 12 years of age; I had been told by my parents and the aforementioned grandmother to put a fight and start screaming if a stranger tried to grab me in a public place.

Had that busybody grabbed me, I would have defended myself, and if law enforcement had gotten involved I guarantee you that any good lawyer would have played "he has autism and thought the guy was trying to kidnap him" card and gotten any charges dropped.

I have not had a public meltdown since I was in my early teens, but even today, a good number of the incidents I find myself in are probably 40-60% the result of a bystander who doesn't know how to mind their own fucking business like that guy at the ice cream shop in New Hampshire.

It almost always does, but luckily those days are behind me; I have matured a lot in the last two decades, and most people wouldn't guess that I am on the autism spectrum during a brief conversation. I unfortunately find myself being a bit more reclusive because other people are so unpredictable; I never go into any situation looking for trouble, but people can't mind their own business, and when they come in hot it puts me on edge and I get triggered.

I would have just responded with “No”.
I would not have asked what they were talking about.
Because, I don’t care what they are talking about.

I have found simple short answer are best.
It doesn’t give people an opening to “ask more questions”.

I would have told her, “Yeah. I’m gay. Women like you are what turned me gay”
    Then walked away:thumbsup:

People with autism have a certain body language, even if they appear to be a normal person in every other way. You can tell by looking at some people that they are on the spectrum or have another disability. One perfect example is the way they walk; I can tell you from observing my own autistic friends that are certain involuntary movements that would freak out somebody who doesn't know them. Some of these movements are almsot microscopic, but people still notice them, and it has to do with why I can easily pick somebody with autism out of a large crowd; I will admit that I brought some of the encounters I've had on myself, but part of the reason people come across as hostile no doubt has to do with the fact I am a large white male. Heck, just being a large guy regardless of skin doesn't always help. If I was a female, things would probably be a lot easier for me in certain situations.

I have a feeling that simply saying "No" in this case would have still resulted in a similar outcome.

    Not for me.

No. Would have been the last message I sent.
No need to go into why I am not mad at some.
Me proving I’m not mad at someone, is only going to make mad.
And I don’t like being mad

Ive had a few instances where people will say something to me basically under their breath or as they are walking away, usually something snarky. Ok want to say something say it loud or dont say it all.

I forget the details now, but once at Subway person behind glass says something rude, i heard what the person said...i basically told the person "i heard that, why dont you just shut your mouth" person turned a bit red in embarassment...lol. Not that i would get in a fight with a worker but still its point if the matter.

Another time a bum clearly looking to ask me for money starts heading my way. I point away from me and say "nope" he starts mumbling something about dont talk to me like that...i said, "you really want to go there??"

For the most part, unless it directly affects my livelihood, I could care less if someone is mad at me.
I probably wouldn’t even responded to the Subway guy. Mostly because, 1.) I don’t care. And 2.) He is making my sandwich even though he’s mad at me. (I win. Making him work for someone he’s mad at:rofl:)

I have no problem being in a subordinate position to a woman, and in fact I worked for a woman just four months older than me during my four years as a barback. Her name name is Sam, she was the general manager at Puck, she was among the best if not the best boss I've ever had, and we're still friends. We had mutual respect for each other and that worked in our favor.

It is when somebody considerably younger than is above particularly another guy, and talks down to me or otherwise treats me like shit; I got into it with a male assistant manager when I was working at Spirit Halloween in 2021, after he happened to walk into the break room and catch me on my phone; I can understand why he was annoyed, but yelling at me to "get off my ass and get back out on the floor" was totally uncalled for. Maybe it was more the tone he used than what he actually said, but I felt he was unprofessional, so I reported him to a much more senior supervisor who agreed with me and that supervisor thought that the best course of action was to keep us separated for the last few days the store was open...
