The 3rd gen shares a bit with the 2nd gen including the frame (despite seatbelt Mike saying it’s “updated”) and was a bandaid “redesign” from inside sources. 1st and 2nd gen share nothing besides name.

I really, really wanted to comment back in here 2 weeks ago, but I had to get back to Detroit and then fly down to Australia before Xmas. Seeing a lot of Hilux pickups here, but more importantly, J79s! Hope y'all are enjoying your Christmas and holidays. I'm in the hot Australian summer sun, which is the flipside to back home.

Most importantly above all, Tacoma news! The next generation Tacoma could possibly start production a month earlier in November 2023? I'd listen to DJ on that, but I do see a source listening November 1, 2023 as a Job 1 date. Doesn't make sense to bring it forward, but I guess if they're in a rush as he said, why not? I commend that post for setting shit straight, because...I'm tired of the BS trolling. If you are not doing the research and touching base with industry folks, you do not have the right to discredit any of us exercising due diligence. I can't say it enough without looking like an asshole, because @DJinTN looks more like an angel than I do in most cases.

And if you're hearing information on a new Land Cruiser, yep it's as I once said awhile back. It's real, think about the end of FJ production and that coming on the heels of...

Dead accurate, save for maybe the e-brake and interior clock that can be considered carryover LOL. Typical Toyota though, as every redesign used the same clock until TNGA.

The 2005 Tacoma was loosely based on a luxury truck frame in the 120-Series Prado. Americans would hate the IMV frame, which continues of the lineage of the 1994 Toyota Pickup. '05 Tacoma mopped the segment, as it was designed to do. Had more configurations than Gen 1 Tacoma, that your head would spin. Only didn't have a V8, because of 1G Tundra not ready for redesign until 2007 and gas prices increasing due to Iraq didn't help.

Some don't believe me when I tell them that the Taco will come before the 'Runner.

Why is it exactly that we think that again?

    Thanks.

I am also interested in the timeline for the 4Runner and the new Land Cruiser. What forums are these being discussed on?

Solely out of curiosity, how do people working on 3rd party parts know what generation of what vehicle they will be going on?

Please do not interpret this as me questioning your legitimacy. It is a 100% curiosity (and ignorance) based question.

    Thanks.

There are other people that actually work for Toyota right now that say he knows very little (about future products) and is often wrong, because he's been cut out from the circle due to going public.

I really want to see the press truck, but it seems like it’s going to pretty ugly. The spy photos look like it has the same lines as the tundra and those inward pinched fenders at the bottom. Going to goofy with a lift.

So I just found out supposedly from a TOYOTA source that there will be definitely be a 4cydr turbo option on the next gen taco, with a hybrid option for that same engine.

If there is no N/A offering, I won’t be buying a turbo, I’ll either drive what I have till the wheels come off, or I’ll be looking else where for a throwaway vehicle somewhere else.

TOYOTA is driving me out. :annoyed:

Just a matter of months now before the '24 is officially revealed, so we'll all find out soon enough. However, I highly doubt the I4-turbo will even slightly impede Tacoma sales.

Yota can count me out if that’s the only offering. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

If they dropped the V8 in the Tundra you can be darn sure the Turbo 4 in the Lexus NX is going in the Taco. I bought a Bronco and traded it after two weeks for the 23 Tundra. I’ll asses the 24 Tacoma once I see if the backseat is doable for short trips.

“The most popular NX will probably be the NX350, which sits one rung above the price-topping 203-hp NX250 and leads with an enticing new 2.4-liter turbocharged I-4. The NX350 offers 275 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.”

Hilarity. Turbos will last a long time. Technology has come a long way, i just wonder if we will be able to do a swap into the 3rd gen someday down the road. That would be awesome.
