Hmm, I don't trust TFL on anything. We're polar opposites, especially after they misled thousands (if not millions) about the next generation Tacoma previously in 2021 and banned me for pointing out, that there was no redesigned Tacoma for 2023. I have a much better track record than they do on this front, plus they don't even mention other powertrains the Tacoma should be offered with for 2024. The report just lazily mirrors the Tundra's V35A-FTS and iForceMax (hybrid) lineup, but in a stepdown capacity. I expected this before myself, but have seen otherwise.

Toyota hasn't officially mentioned the 920B Program Tacoma, outside of Toyota Design's Kevin Hunter discussing similarities to the 2022 Tundra and a quote on product reveals in 2023. They should soon though.

    EDIT:
Yes, T24A-FTS is both a 2.4L turbocharged petrol engine and a turbocharged hybrid gas-electric engine as Hybrid Max. Currently used by the 2023 Toyota Crown and 2023 Lexus RX500h F-Sport Performance. I don't believe the former will be offered in the Tacoma for 2024, but I still want further confirmation on that.

TBH I’d rather not say, not because I don’t trust the information, as I have suspected it for over a year now, but because I don’t think anyone in the industry knows for sure.

Everyone including TOYOTA has plans, and tons of money has been spent.

TOYOTA even unveiled a group of EV’s but now they seems to be backtracking, at least for now.
The only one who has committed full steam ahead is Ford, and they’ve piled on so much debt, the bankruptcy rumors mills are starting to spook some investors.

Moreover, now there’s a new dangerous variant of the Cerveza virus in China that has prompted new US flight restrictions.

Something that could put us back to 2019 and that would be catastrophic.

So until I see the new product in the dealer showroom if we’ll still have those because is looking more like they won’t build until they have the orders and the materials.

It could be a whole new world soon. And I’m rather fond of the old one lol!

That's fair, you don't have to trust it. However, I do believe the internet is copying and repasting the same information, in my opinion. When new information becomes publicized/leaked about an unreleased and privately-kept vehicle, there's always a sole primary source for it. Only exception, is when a group of people, are dispensed the same information all at once officially. Press embargoes come to mind, particularly per example when you see reviews of a freshly revealed new model appear on YouTube all in unison.

When I first made it public in early 2020, that the Tacoma would be redesigned for 2024, the 2020 article in question became referenced by nearly all media entities. The context of other models especially got corrupted by those commentators/journalists who didn't have the direct insight from me. They quickly made their own inaccurate assumptions 20 months later in October 2021 and wrongly pointed the public towards 2023 Model Year redesign expectations, when the first spy shots of Tacoma test mules surfaced around Michigan. I disputed that independently, in knowing otherwise and held firm to 2024.

So, it being all over the internet webs means nothing, if it comes from the same place, TFL. Being that I generally do not read nor watch their content, maybe there's something I could easily be missing, but TFL is not much of a credible source on future insight. They are mostly good with spy shots (like an automotive TMZ) and are more in the field, than other media entities. I give them that credit, even for their own incorrigibility in other areas.

Automotive Press is no different, save for Kirk Kriefels who is more flexible and will go much further with the right resources made available to him. He's not afraid to correct course and deliver the right information to his viewers. I can say the same for a few others on YouTube.

When TFL sticks to only confirming Hybrid Max for the Tacoma, only then I will be on the same page with them.

Toyota is only developing an EV Hilux, but not Tacoma for some reason. That's the real story. I don't know why they're keeping the 2.7L, but I learned that and need further confirmation, as even he who won't be implicated for job security reasons, echoed the same sentiment as my source, then scrubbed all mention of it ASAP.

Not officially, but they are developing a unibody pickup on GA-K and I believe, it has past design freeze already. That means it would be ready no later than MY 2025 or early 2025 (as a 2026 model). Next year would be really odd, but stranger things have happened.

@DJinTN You see it perfectly. TFL hasn't even made mention of that, which is why I know their narrative isn't fully accurate. Thanks as always. For your own security, you can delete that ASAP to protect your privacy.

What are the chances that at least one aspect of the Gen 4 really wows us? Something completely unexpected?

Probably zero, as manufacturers like to leak stuff out there to verify that their marketing strategy is going in the right direction and/or make last minute adjustments, if possible.

The sad part for me is, I like what I have now and will miss it.

But don’t get me wrong, you’re gonna like the new look.

Sometimes the fine looking gal is not so fine inside.

I think it will be the Powertrain. Much like the Tundra folks grumbling about the horror of going from a V8 to TT V6 with 10 speed Transmission. I think the majority of the actual Gen3 Tundra owners would rate the new Powertrain as one of their favorite aspects. The smoothness of shifts, delivery of power, and ease of towing (truck doesn’t even feel 5k boat) doesn’t make me miss the V8 in my Tundra for a second. As a bonus, I couldn’t believe I was getting 21.5 MPG (not towing) on a highway trip averaging between 75 and 80 MPH with a crew cab 4x4.

Seems like the majority of Gen3 Tacoma owners who have left the model for tundras or other trucks use words like “gutless, minivan engine, shifts like crap, can’t get out of the way towing, poor fuel economy, over revs while towing, ect when describing why they sold their Tacos.

The grumblings about the powertrain will go away after they realize how much money they're saving when gas goes back up to $5/gallon. Toyota has to maintain their Cafe EPA and this setup is helping. Trucks will only get better from here.

I doubt there will be much of an increase going from the V6 to the turbo 4, maybe 1 MPG.

They gave the tundra like a 41% increase in highway MPG going from the v8 to the twin turbo v6 with hybrid. If they could do the same % with the tacoma/4runner engine it would be something like 33.8mpg hwy. A 4cyl turbo with a hybrid could do it, but a 4x4 drivetrain would likely suck mpg from it. I'd say they could likely get to 29mpg hwy and have room to grow.

The other part of the equation is styling/Aerodynamics. Will they sacrifice the aggressive Toyota Styling to get the best MPG? who knows. But I'm excited for the second year of the next generation with Hybrid turbo 4 trucks.

Edit: I know it's part car, but the Ford Maverick is pulling down 42mpg with a turbo 4 hybrid setup.

The hybrid tundra gets 1 MPG better overall than the TT-6 and is advertised as a feature for more power instead of for MPG. I would expect similar of the Tacoma along with a substantial price increase, and most likely only available on the Pro.
