For those who installed the Icon AAL to their trucks, did you leave in or take out the overload spring. I know the instructions say to remove the overload but I know some people leave it in for a little extra lift and to retain some payload. For those who left it in, what did you do with the retaining clip on the AAL? that goes towards the front of the truck? It seems like it would make contact with the overload spring when compressed. Thanks in advance.

Picture attached with what I'm talking about. Will this retaining clip on the AAL interfere with the OL spring? Or should that be enough clearance?

I just left it there. Ran these for 30k miles with no issues

Thank you for the reply. This may be a dumb question but does it matter which direction the OEM leaf spring goes? Because on your set, you have the long end of the AAL going to the left of the picture, which would mean that would be the rear of the truck. The current leafs on my truck have this little hook at the end of the leaf pack (like yours does) but that hook is on the front end of the leaf pack.

Sorry man I don't know the answer. I did the install on those a couple years ago and don't remember what the instructions were, but I can say that everything functioned just fine the way those are set up

This is how mine looked. 2022 Take offs, then the Icon Leaf Pack and then the factory overload put back on.

I believe there's 3 different ways to run the AAL, I'll have to find the picture on the Icon site

I was going to keep my overload in but the install shop I went to suggested against it.

I regret not leaving the overload spring. The truck sagged a ton with out the overload spring and it made me step up to a full leaf pack sooner (1.5 months) rather than later

these are icon RXT's, not the factory, OEM, springs

Easiest way to think about is that the military wrap (aka double layer of steel around the bushing) goes forward.

I did it without the overload spring on mines and wish I kept it in. I recommend keeping it in as they will sag once broken in. At least with the overload spring and AAL you get that extra support especially when adding load to the bed.

Thanks, that's what I thought but I guess I was second guessing myself after seeing Skeletons leaf pack shown above. Seems like he might have put in his AAL backwards since the long part of the AAL is supposed to go towards the rear and he has his going towards the front?

Yeah it does look like I installed the AAL backward, but the leafs were installed with the military wraps on the static, forward leaf spring hanger. They've since been replaced by a full Deaver pack anyhow since the OEM+AAL started sagging after about a year

I’m wanting to add my overload spring back, so from reading this the long part goes towards the rear on each side when putting back on with the aal?

IIRC the overload spring is the same distance end to end from the center? So I don't think it would matter which direction it would go.

Ahh makes sense now, I guess the reference was considering the whole leaf pack in reference to the long side of the leaf towards back.

Can anyone one help with this, my long bed didn’t come with axle shims for the leaf pack. I’m going to add my overload back on with the icon aal for better load carry, I’m having some drive line vibration and tried the carrier bearing spacer and still didn’t quite fix. So I’m going to add a 2 degree shim to compensate for 2” lift in the rear. My question: do I put the 2* shim under the overload spring to get the pinion angle back?
