How many times can you rebuild your shocks before you have to replace them completely?

I have the icon stage 5 kit. Rebuilt them twice so far.
Just want to know when I should replace them completely, because I want kings. It’s just hard to justify doing that then the icons are holding up just fine.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Rebuilding shocks is replacing o rings, packings, backings, and bushings, and fresh fluid/nitrogen.

so as long as your hard parts are all serviceable still, your shocks can be rebuilt.

there will be times that small hard parts have to be replaced, eventually there will be times that large had parts have to be replaced. But if you notice that the shaft has been rubbed to the point of scratching the hardened surface and keep going, it could cost less to replace than rebuild.

Are they that much better than the icons? What difference would I notice?

I have that same Icon setup. rebuilt them earlier this year. Not happy with the pitting on the shafts and digressive valving, thus I've got some Kings on the way. Ill update with any differences I notice

How often on average do they need to be rebuilt?

The shafts on my Kings had noticeable pitting after a year.

You spray em down after you wheel? That doesn't sound right

It doesn't matter when you spray them down. Rocks hit the shaft when you wheel. I even bought the King shaft shield (plastic) and they broke the first time I used them.

Ah. You gotta use some rubber shields my man! Go to home depot and get some sheet rubber, hose clamp it/zip tie it on to the front of your rear shocks

I sold the 5th gen 4runner that had the Kings. I'm waiting for a third gen Taco! I'm thinking about going with a simpler set up this time w/ Bilstein 6112/5160 since I won't be doing any long haul trails anymore, but will probably keep the TRD OR Bilstein shocks/ struts for a few months until I get a topper and wheels.

When I bought the 4runner, I really wanted to cross the Mojave and I did (~130 miles offroad) and now am just interested in camping.
