I'm currently already in the process of having a 12" ported sub + 600w mono amp + lc2i installed. I've been looking around trying to find the best speakers to replace the factory jbl's with. Something simple with not much modification. I think the stock jbl speakers are something like 2 ohms. If anyone also has a recommendation for replacing all 6 speakers + an amp solution I'd like to hear as well, but I'm more looking for just simply replacing the speakers.

you don't find the system as it is, with the stock amp, to be lacking in power? a new set of 2 ohm speakers are likely to have a hard time keeping up with that sub/amp.

I would get an amp as well if it was that easy, thing is with the jbl system I have to buy the $350 pac amp pro just to keep my stock head unit working if I want to add another amp for the speakers. Like I said though if anyone has a good recommendation of replacing all the speakers + new amp I’d consider saving for it.

This may be a stupid question idk, but since I’ll no longer have the stock sub on the amp could I put any of that power towards the speakers?

    i don't believe so.

yeah, i'm in the same boat with JBL. i'm presently accumulating the pieces, i have an amp and most of the speakers so far, but haven't started installing. i need to get the Pac AmPro, a dsp and sound damping etc before starting.

i've read threads here from a couple people that just replaced speakers and seem to have found some improvement with that alone. but i find that for some music i'm maxing what the stock amp can put out power-wise. so... i elected to go whole hog. incrementally upgrading by starting with speakers would likely lead me to redundant purchases given how limited the choices are in 2 ohms. while the whole project is going to be expensive, i'd still rather not throw any of that $ away.

I ordered the jbl 963 and jbl 628 door speakers after looking at your thread. Will this be an improvement over stock in volume and clarity by just replacing the speakers? I already have a ported 12” sub which really overpowers the speakers and if I turn them up too much to keep up they sound worse.

if you've got the jbl amp, it won't be the head unit restricting things. it'll be a restriction at the amp, of which replacement sort of defeats the purpose of this thread.

Nah. I think it's the simplicity of just swapping things while retaining the JBL amp. It definitely is the head unit. The garbage Chinese Android unit I had would hurt my ears. The factory JBL is quiet.

It might just be a mind thing where I think it's better. How did you install the sub?

Custom ported box across the whole back wall with a little space to mount the stock amp back there as well. Alpine type s 12”. Alpine s-a60m and Lc2i mounted under the drivers seat.

If I’m understanding this correctly, to add a diff amp and retaining the stock head unit, I’d need the pac amp pro?
I’m mainly wanting to replace the stock sub so that it hits a bit more vs the stock.

you should be able to use the sub wiring as a speaker level input to an aftermarket amp. if all you're looking for is more bass. it won't change the eq, or make it sound better per-se, but will allow you to make it louder with aftermarket gear.

but any removal of the jbl amp is going to require a maestro/pac amp pro, or similar, as the amp gets a 'raw' digital signal from the head unit, then adds in the channel/factory eq settings, and you need a way to decipher that signal if the amp isn't there.

So it was the head unit restricting loudness. Dropped in the Sony and it's significantly louder like the other Android unit.
