    sadly Amos was just diagnosed with feline leukemia and not given a good prognosis. We don’t know if this is something he contracted or if he was born with it. Test result was very faint and blood had to be sent to a pathologist to determine it was positive. Could have been overlooked when he got tested as a kitten? Right now he’s doing ok and we’re just trying to stay positive and happy.

    We tell him that every day. He actually reacts to it and covers his face with his paws. He always get praise for doing such a good job protecting his girls.

    It’s been a bit since I’ve been on the thread.

    Today we will be saying goodbye to our little guy, Hammond…AKA Hamster. He made a rapid decline. When we took him to the vet he had jaundice and his blood work came back with his bilirubin at 8.0. Normal is around .2 with high being 1.0. The vet said we could sedate him, force feed or tube feed him and see if he gets better and then run additional tests. She was brutally honest and told us his prognosis was very poor as all his liver levels were high. We will not let him suffer for our own selfishness and will be taking him in this afternoon. He is such a happy little guy but now he actually looks so sad. :pout:

    Very sorry to hear that :( but it sounds like you're making the right choice. Had a similar situation with my dog a few years ago, but made the tough call to have him put down (it was cancer). It wasn't fair to him to try and barely keep him going. When we went to put him down, I said my goodbyes, he looked right at me and laid his head down on my leg as if to say "it's okay, Dad." I'm sure Hammond knows it's the right time too.
