just picked mine up and baptized her at the Oregon coast yesterday, driving head-on into 40+ mph gusts and torrential rain. Was actually surprised how little water got in since it was basically like going through a car wash for over an hour lol. Camped for the night had a great sleep. You can see how soaked the Sand Lake Rec Area valley is, needless to say, it was a sparse crowd.

@Trucks2019 I'll wager based on last nights experience you'll have more issue with condensation than with any one of the thousand different kinds of rains we get. Caveat that by saying you need to put your time into sealing your bed rail caps & those front corners. I have aftermarket ones so they were relatively easy to seal up, but the trade off with that is it required a spacer so the alignment tabs on the bottom of the camper could fit (2nd gen)

Awesome looking truck, love that color!

In my previous post I mentioned being able to access the camper tent by stepping up on the bumper and tailgate top. Hadn't paid attention to 2nd Gens previously. Looks like the rear hatch covers the top of the tailgate, so that is not an option.

I keep 3 mummy sleeping bags 2 x 20 degree and 1 50 degree (son), 2 down blankets and 2 camp pillows. Sometimes I squeeze another small blanket in there.

I ended up picking up several due to a trip and it was an easy although expensive add. Made for quick access to key things. They fit very nice on the doors so will give them that.

    Our favorite topic “mounting hardware”.

1st version - trash, they loosen very easy and at least for me and some on 2nd gens the X1 can shift when they come loose.

Multiple times but last one but for this a trip to Baja myself and another (1st Gen.) came loose. Since there is a bolt that holds the 2 pieces they stay connected although loose.

2nd version - “beefy mounts” small run they sold for a ton of cash. I took the bait due to my poor initial ones.

Overall these seem very solid and well built but they have a major flaw in the design. These “beefy” ones do have a bolt but they work based on pressure and pull on each other. They are not physically connected with any hardware.

Ironically on the same road in Baja my camper mounts came loose. (Big shock here). Due to the design of one piece loosens (specially the lower piece) the mount is useless and not holding the camper. I did not realize this at first tightened all 4 and headed back on the trail. I’m my mirror I saw my camper “hop”. On inspection all 4 lower pieces had fallen off after loosening and my X1 was only on my truck with gravity.

    32F61E72-9865-426C-A766-092646CAC1FD.jpg

I came damn close to losing my X1 in Baja. And tightened it all up, added loc tight because why not. At least one came loose again but was able to get home with no more X1 issues.

If you have the “beefy” mounts make sure to double, triple and do it again often if you on washboards or any heavy Offroad trails.

    E6C691F0-6110-4457-A48F-298A48E95CC8.jpg

3rd mounts - current. Anyone have them? Any issues? I’m thinking asking for a few to add as backups in case the beefy ones fail me again.

main thing give whoever had the “beefy” ones a heads up:

We’ve been working on an overlanding build concept for the X1 designed to make it a bit more comfortable for dispersed camping. The design has three components: 1) a super lightweight floor plate system for mounting furniture, 2) an outdoor kitchen/fridge cabinet that can be snapped in and out without tools using our plate anchors, and 3) a multifunction cushioned bench for lounging, eating and working but that also houses an advanced electrical system (with separate custom control panel), a Webasto Air Top heater and ducting, and optionally a Wrappon dry toilet. Our test design is for the Ram Rebel, but it can easily work with any pickup bed...even the Tacoma short bed. We use a German T-slot framing system (not 80/20) that is designed for industrial applications. if this looks interesting to you, give us a shout.

Yah they is leftover of the 3rd gen design. Even though these are all Tacoma compatible they are still very much a 3rd Gen camper and fit it the best. The rest on the 2nd gen window sucks. The flap they give you does not seal well and leave areas for dust and water. it would be nice to have a step though.

Checked the measurements and looks like it will work if anyone wanted some lightweight molle storage option. Advertised as a seat back panel but at 20" it looks to be able to easily cover the mounting areas on the back window. It would be a trial and error on getting it secured but looks like it may work.

Hey guys I don’t have my Tacoma anymore I have a gladiator with a GFC but this forum has the most info on the SP and I have a question. With my GFC I’m getting water intrusion when my camper is closed and driving in heavy rain. I was wondering if you guys experienced any leaking with the super pacific I’m thinking of making the change. It also seems to built a little better

I don't think there is any question that the X1 tent is better made than the GFC tent. I was just watching a vid that shows how the exterior door panels on the GFC tent don't have zippers, or any other way to close them, at the bottom. The leaking while driving in rain is a known issue with GFC and is probably more related to the way the upper and lower RTT extrusions are sealed at the front then about the tent itself. This vid talks a bit about it: https://youtu.be/6WlraEeO_5E.
As for X1 leakage while driving or otherwise, the SP Facebook group doesn't have a lot of posts about leaking issues, but the few that are posted seem to be more about the tent leaking when deployed as opposed to leaking that happens when it is closed for driving. For me, the biggest issues with the GFC tent are the way the doors are built (no inside flap, no fully zipped external flap) and the lack of ventilation at the top of the tent where it is needed most. SP, if you are listening, please add an inside flap to your doors to better control ventilation. I think Alu-Cab has this figured out best using fully zipped internal (black-out) flaps and a large external awning flap for the rear door with support poles. It's built like a high-quality ground tent.

Top posts past 3 days in the SP facebook group are about leaking and soaked mattresses.
On the GFC what happens is people leave to much up top when they close, which causes bowing and gap on the sides which allows leaking because the seal, well cant seal. Its easy to see when you close it.
I think SP doors and vents are better. But dual layer fabric like the AluCab is the way to go. However, much bulkier and heavier.
If you can find a local SP check it out.

SP has vents above the doors on each side (2 above the rear door). They work pretty well. During humid/rainy spells you're never going to eliminate all condensation.

I agree with @evdog the 3 vents up above the tent doors work great limiting condensation. I haven't had any problems to date....

I know we have talked about tires a decent amount but wanted some input from some of you that are as heavy as me

Steel bumpers, rear swing out, sliders, front winch, and skids.

Im looking at going to either 255/80R17 or 285/70R17. Is the ride of an E load going to suck? I feel like a C load isn't going to be good enough.

    Thanks!
