The OEM filter is easy to replace if you don’t use the stupid plastic drain tube that comes with the new filter.
I simply loosen the filter until I can turn it by hand, stick a small plastic bag, hold the top of bag and spin it off from the bottom, clean it and done.

I like the OEM setup because I can easily pre-fill it with new clean oil, I then stick the new filter element and top it off with oil and no worries about a dry engine startup.

The observiation was based on your last sentence, "Easier" is subjective, if unscrewing a plug and inserting a plastic drain is "harder" then I suppose you are correct but then question your capability. It's a moot point. "Cleaner" is one of the chief advantages to the cartridge, no spill, no residual oil pooled up inside the filter and no drooling from the drain. Paper filters actually provide greater filtration than most spin ons, they also let you inspect the oil unlike a spin on. "Faster" is also subjective considering most of us can swap a filter the same amount of time as swapping a spin on so again, the argument is pretty moot. All things considered there are only advantages to cartridges. More over your statement that they are "better built" based on your anecdotal experience just shows ignorance to modern engineering.

You do you though, not gonna convince anyone here.

not true, the filter gets changed every 5k (with a .5-1qrt top off) and amsoil is independently proven to be effective up to 25k via blackstone labs multiple different tests (castrol full synthetic is proven to 12k with same tests) so might want to double check your data and read what I type next time ;)

I was referring to Toyota vs Toyota. The filter media looks the same on the OEM stuff.

Next time your oil gets to 20+k miles on the Amsoil, rub some between your fingers, and you'll feel some grit/dirt.

You really need to do their whole system for the correct results.

How do I know? I've install their complete oil filter system a few times over the last 30 years. It works! spin-on filter wont filter to < 1 micron, The Ams system will.

it's not just unscrewing a plug and inserting a drain plug though now is it? it is simply not possible, if you were to be honest and you don't seem to want to be (do you sell cartridge filters or something, not sure what you have in the game here) for a cartridge filter to be as quick as a spin on...sure it's moot but you're the one pressing the issue and I don't like dishonesty, even when someone is just lying to themselves. again, never said it was hard per se but it IS more difficult than a spin on, again, basic physics and steps involved. How you can argue otherwise is dishonest but whatever, maybe you really believe that, ok, we disagree and will never agree on that, so freaking what lol, I don't care what you do to your vehicle but I don't like misinformation especially when it's so blatant. btw cartridges are the same filters as in spin ons with one exception, the filters in the spin ons ARE attached better and with the adapter you can use a larger element than oem...so win win. as I said, more than once I've seen a top of the line cartridge fail. ok, later this has gone on too long and pointlessly so.

op got their answer, go with the baxter and a larger filter, they can tell you what filters fit, I'd have to grab my box of 'em out of the car to tell you and it pouring outside so not gonna

Really now, you accuse me of lying because I have a different opinion on the matter? How pathetic.

You dont even know what you are talking about yet accuse others of spreading misinformation based on your own ineptness. Sad.

Chalk up another dumbass to the ignore list.

their whole system? you mean all the fluids? done...and what proof do you have that 20k amsoil is not still good? and with 5k filter changes too? Because I have proof it IS good and doesn't have silicates (also known as DIRT) as you falsely claim there. I highly doubt you know what you're talking about...a complete oil filter system...what the hell are you talking about? what two oil filters instead of one? magnets in the oil pan? a pressurized setup to squirt oil before the engine is started? never heard of such nonsense being needed, usually people who don't know anything waste money on that kind of thing. and what you say would be true of ANY oil filter, spin ons are THE SAME element as in cartridges! LITERALLY THE SAME! so basically what you're saying is unless I spend...what 5k on this "oil system" you sell (imagine that) then I might as well just not change my oil? what it sounds like...you're full of it. thanks *eyeroll

You might be thinking of the stock, tin plate that comes on the TRD OR. This is the plate you want, if you have the pictured plate without an access door you might be the only one in the world. This plate replaces two thin plates with a single large plate.

Not much to ignore anyway other than your confusion on your CEL, rough idle, broken transmission, aiming headlights and what fuel addititive to use.

I mean it ALL makes sense as to why you think changing a basic cartridge filter is hard...

I agree with you, for someone like YOU it is absolutely hard, can I interest you in a used Powerwheel? No oil changes needed.

You have a TRD Off Road, with the stock Off Road plate. the plate I am referring to is the TRD Pro Skid plate, as shown from another user just a few posts up. there is an access door, you can see it in the pics. once I started using the MotivX tools, with the drain valve and hose, my leaks, drips, spills are few and far between.

I was really going to buy a baxter unit but, the price turns me off. spin on or cartridge... they are all just filter media, is one "better" than the other? what is better... filtration, ease of use, messiness? I personally use the TRD oil filter kit, not the regular stock oem filter. I enjoy being able to visually inspect the media, and the aftermath of it doing it's job to keep visual tabs on the engine life.

In the end it is all personal preference. Ski

I had some frustration with my first oil change back in Sept. Then I had my 20K Mile ToyotaCare Maintenance a couple weeks ago (Dec 13) and it included an oil change.

This next oil change in 2023 (around Apr/May), I'll install the Fumoto Valve so I don't do this again!

I also ordered the correct height size paper filter. I kept the other one on from Sep to Dec. I'll also be replacing the plastic cannister with the metal one.

Is that the TRD skid plate? Wonder how big that hole is, I have mobtown skids but never seemed to have an issue with spillage from the drain hole.
