Has anyone come across any hardshell canopy covers purchased from alibaba or aliexpress?

I found someone local selling one of these on Craigslist that was purchased from aliexpress. My guess is that he purchased a few of them and is selling them off.

They look similar to the design of other steel canopies that run $4k+ and look like they have the same features.

Anyone seen or had any experience with these?

You'll never be able to obtain any support or replacement parts. Even if they're ok for the money I wouldn't do it due to those reasons.

The lack of support would be a concern, but it looks like the parts may be similar to the parts that some of the other manufacturers use (locks, struts, hinges)

If you're handy and willing to create your own solutions to any problems that arise it may be worth your time. I personally bought a used, off-color Leer for $400 and that suited me fine, but it's not for everyone.

Post the CL link so we can compare the listing to the original seller's stuff.

So almost like the domestic manufacturers? :anonymous:

I found a couple of them by searching, I'm more surprised they had an F150 in China, but shipping is really high on everything right now and these are certainly no exception. I didn't see any that listed the Tacoma, the closest was the HiLux, and Toyota's retarded engineers screwed up this bed design so badly I'd be scared to order something that wasn't listed as being made for it.

Leer/ARE might take a while to get certain parts, but you can actually communicate with them and get your parts eventually. Good luck getting something from Alibaba customer service even if you speak Mandarin and have the world's best long distance plan.

Kinda sorta. ARE for example just tells you to contact your local dealer. Luckily my local dealer seems to be honest and pointed me towards the few wesbites that sell parts and said it'd be faster and cheaper to order from them than trying to go through ARE. Hopefully you've had better luck. I can't speak to Leer's service as I took the Leer tonneau cover off my truck shortly after I bought it (it was on the truck when I bought it). I've heard Snugtop supposedly has very good customer service, at least on the west coast.

That said, no, I wouldn't order any items like that from China. Maybe if they were on ebay or some site where the buyer has some protection and there were some real reviews out there, but definitely not off Alibaba or the like.

Is it one of those tactical/modular caps or one piece?
