    My heart got broken tonight, I was on the way back from Frederick with another load of firewood in the trailer when I started hearing a different "thud" noise from the rear of the 4runner. I know that the muffler/tailpipe joint is broken so the tailpipe swings into the trailer hitch and driveshaft, but this was different. When I got home I crawled underneath and had a look. The rear upper shock mount finally rotted away enough for the shock to be hammering the underside of the cargo area.

    I need to come up with a fix, quickly. I was considering outboarding the shocks but never got into a design phase yet. I need the 4runner for any crappy winter weather. Damn it!

    Not mine, hi-jacked from a 4runner site but it looks identical. Pretty common issue in the rust belt with these rigs. I saw a few weld on solutions so I will dig deeper and hopefully fond a way to keep 'ole crusty on the road for a while longer.

    Roads are still iced covered up here on the mountain. Due to the ice my neighbor in the white f150 couldn't make it off the mountain today to pick up his 90yo dad from the hospital. My Honda SxS got the job done tonight. His dad is home safe with family.

    The 3 year old and I loaded this old chair up and ran it over to the dumpster this morning. Drove with the hatch open and it didn't even bounce thanks to those new struts. Stayed open the entire time.

    Those shocks are only 4 years old and they're toast as well. I have my buddy that owns a body shop looking to see if the upper rear shock mounts for 2nd/3rd gen Tacos and 4th/5th Gen 4runners are available as a crash replacement part.

    I got to meet @DetroitDarin today, nice folks, he and his wife.

    I stopped at jones dysfunction on the way home to look at a 2019 4runner SR5.. I had to pass. Front end sheet metal was all fooked up with bad fitting replacement parts and mismatched paint. I think that someone has to try really hard to NOT be able to match white paint.. they tried like hell to convince me that there was no damage because carfax didn't have anything reported. :rolleyes:
