I just want to drain radiator and add new fluid. No flushing!. Searched everywhere, how many jugs of fluid will i need to buy to fill it back up?

I don't understand why, only drain and fill (radiator) your contaminating the new with what's left in rest of system. You would never drain half your oil...

This is similar to what people do with the transmission.

I know, i just don't want to get into doing the whole flush. have a 2016 with 27K miles on it so i am just going to drain the radiator. i am a old fart, at the point where every thing i touch turns into a goat rope.

Yep, I do the same with my power steering fluid too. Suck the fluid reservoir dry and refill with fresh PS fluid every engine oil change.

I'm sure there's a least a litre+ of engine oil left in the block, heads and oil galleries during an average oil change anyway. Draining and refilling the rad every once and a while can't hurt either IMO....

Only 27k and you’re changing the rad fluid? Waste of time and money.

Coolant gets acidic with age. 2016 was awhile ago now. Superlong life is good for 5-10 years, but early won't hurt it.

Draining the rad usually needs 1 and 1/2 gallon. So 2 jugs. Nothing wrong with preventative.

I do this every 2 years on all of my vehicles. Same with the power steering fluid and brake fluid.

Actually there is some logic here for the coolant and transmission.

The fluids don't wear out so much as the additive package does, by changing a percentage of the fluid you get some fresh additives (protection) in the system with a minimum of work and expense.

Old cars with long neglected automatic transmissions may have a fair amount of build up. A full fluid change puts a lot of fresh (full strength) additives in the transmission at once, that might cut loose enough build up to cause issues. A soft change of 2-3 quarts each oil change is a milder way to clean things up.

Easy to do with a fluid extractor on the older models with a dip stick.

I have purchased old cars with black power steering fluid, the steering racks get "sticky" feeling. Simply by sucking the reservoir dry and refilling a few times the black fluid and the sticky feeling will be gone, repeating occasionally during oil changes keeps the fluid clear.

Well, how do you change it all when you can't get the fluid undiluted?

You can drain the whole system. Also system can be flush which pushes old fluids out. Same as brake fluid flush. Verses radiator drain, which maybe 50% of fluid change.
