I’m not so sure about that. I’m thinking blaze of glory type of thing…

Going back to @khaki2020offroad ‘s question and the fact he posted it in this thread - I think SpaceX is more insulated from EMs personal finances than most people think.

Look up Gwen Shotwell’s statements when he bought Twitter and what it takes to maintain clearance to conduct national security launches. There’s also Starshield.

A financially unstable EM is a national security threat and that’s not going to happen.

Agreed. SpaceX is one of those too-big-to-fail companies at this point.

I’d rather the idea be too good to fail. We need cheap, reliable heavy lift capability to be able to even find out what’s possible.

That would be nice but it’s not rooted in reality. Plenty of good ideas go down the drain.

SpX being the US’s only company able to launch humans at this time = TBTF

Companies have been forced to break up enough times in the past that it’s not impossible. But it’s also a reason NASA might support a comparatively less budget friendly alternative just for the sake of having that alternative. Even long after prudence would suggest abandoning it. Musk is smart but it wouldn’t be the first time someone killed a golden goose. Let’s hope he tires of his new toy.

I was talking about EMs finances and the fact that if he really fucks up, he’ll be booted from SpaceX.

What reasons are there to break up SpaceX? They’re not a monopoly, yet.

FIFY. I’m not saying it’s even likely and yet Spacex controls a higher percentage of the market than SO did and it’s even worse if you take government launches(ie China, Russia, India) out of the picture. I think your right in that it’s more likely he’d be encouraged to step aside keeping Spacex whole but separate from his other companies. And the financial aspect probably isn’t even the biggest concern. It’s still a moot point anyway as long as his companies stay profitable the actual valuation is just keeping score.
