    Hello,

I'm new to the site but I recently bought an 03 Single Cab with a 2.4L and 5-speed.

When I went and looked at the vehicle the previous owner told me that the door latch striker needed to be tightened. ( U shaped plate the door latches to.)

Once I got home, upon further inspection, I noticed the nut plate inside the cab body that the striker mounts to was missing and the previous owner had just lodged a bolt with some Teflon tape in to hold the striker in place.

My question is, is there an easy way to get into the body of the cab without having to remove the whole bed to remove the plastic vent that sits on the back of the cab directly behind the striker?

Or is there an easy fix where I can get a nut-plate on from the outside?

Searched online and doesn't seem like anyone has had a similar issue.

So you would think but when I compare the driver side (Bad side) to the passenger (good side) there are threads on the passenger but on the driver its just sheet metal and no threads. I'm wondering if the threads are a tack welded nut assembly that somehow got damaged and fell off and it might be part of the cab body which is why the schematics don't list it. I would take pictures but right now its Jerry Rigged to work for the time being and I dont want to remove it and not be able to get it back on again.

The piece that is missing is behind the body of the cab. The actual U shaped strike plate is there. the threads on the inside of the cab sheet metal are not.

I'll take a look tomorrow. @Tour991 - have you removed the striker from any of your part-out trucks? welded nut?

Way back n the day when I felt my driver side not holding tight I swapped them side to side. they are interchangeable and should just screw out.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I am guessing at onetime someone managed to break the screws and made things worse.

    Pictures would be good help.

What ever those female threads are weld nuts or a plate they are part of the cab.

i know what I would do cut a used striker out of a part out cab with as much door post as practical .

Make sure everything was free and weld the complete piece in over the years experience tells me this would be the best and fastest way.

If you were close I would be glad to help.

    Good Luck.

First picture is the driver side (Problem side) threads are non-existent:

The second and third is the Passenger side (Good side) Seems to have a nut plate attached to the body:

either have someone weld the piece back on or use a female rivet in that hole to bolt it up.

FFS! Yeah, that certainly poses a problem.
Maybe (?) Check in with local body shops and see what they suggest.

    Sucks, sorry bud.

Ya know... That just might work. Never even crossed my mind lol.

My only concern with this would be the strike plate not sitting flush enough on the cab body which would lead to the door latch not matching up properly.

This might be the best option compared to removing the bed to get to it. I'll post an update when I try this out for anyone who has a similar issue

That will work but your going to need some adjusting to get things to work correct .

    Good luck.

Those just came to mind when I saw the empty hole with no threads in sight, and that you couldn't access that from the back side. If the door latch can clear the wall of the body with the striker mounted with some of these, it would seem it might work.
