    Amen.

What other features beside rear lock/crawl control is there? Oh, yeah...the Master Cylinder is a different set-up too.

I use that area where gear lock/crawl controls are located for my sunglasses. lol

EDIT: What is all this talk of disabling Hill Assist? Apparently, (after reading through my features list) I have it on my Sport. Not many hills here in Delaware.

Anything like this can be fixed with a software update, but it's a matter of if Toyota wants to put the effort into it.

I would say if the truck software applies brake when it shouldn't, in which putting you in a dangerous situation, you should report the incident to the NTSB.

Not many hills here in Indiana either which makes the hill assist that much more annoying. There's probably not a hill in 50 miles of my house where you might need it but there are plenty of hills where it engages. But I'm from hilly Pittsburgh and when I'm back to visit I don't have any problem with the hills without hill assist.

If you had to read the feature list to realize you had it then it's apparently not an annoyance for you. Stop on a hill, release the brakes, and see if it takes about two seconds for the brakes to release and start rolling backwards - if so then that's hill assist.

You said there are times you start off and the brakes are locked... any chance you got a car wash the previous day and then parked overnight in freezing temps?

funny enough i just replaced our frontier with 2023 access cab 6mt. im in canada so i got the offroad though. much prefer the tacoma over the frontier. you could wire in a switch post abs fuse to disable all abs and traction control features. turn back on when moving.

I don't have it on my Pro but my dad does on his Sport. Threw me off for a second but was pretty simple to adapt to after.

I've had to adapt to every manual I've driven. They're all different. It's not a big deal unless you weren't that good at it in the first place. :crapstorm:

No it's not that - they do release if I wait the two seconds or I assume if I hit the has enough. But when I'm on a slight incline and start to release the clutch I expect it to start moving but when instead it doesn't and the engine bogs down my immediate reaction is I'm in 3rd gear. So I hit the brake again to correct the gear which resets the hill assist and I was in 1sy=t all along. On a slight incline the truck doesn't immediately roll so I can't tell immediately that it's engaged. I was in Chicago last week and tried to pull out into traffic from an initial slow crawl (where no gas is needed) and it wouldn't go.

If you are moving at all HA is not involved. That is simply the poor low end torque.

Gotcha. I have the MT sport also. The rear brakes froze up a few times after a winter car wash, esp when truck was new. Or maybe I just wash it less often now.
Anyhow, I have grown to enjoy the HSA on steep starts in traffic. I haven't had to 'rock' the truck in snow or mud yet... HSA might be annoying then.

On the Off Road and Pro Manual you also get the sunglasses holder.

i don’t understand why some folks hate on HA. It’s a nice feature that’s very predictable and saves a bit of wear on the clutch. One can drive just fine without it though.

Even off-road, I don’t mind it at all. It will hold the truck on a steep hill for couple seconds so you can gently get moving, instead of giving it gas and spinning tires so you don’t roll back.

No it wasn't moving at all. I wanted to start out in a slow crawl and then hit the gas to thread the needle as I call it. But when I tried to start out it wouldn't go - because the brakes were still locked.

    Definitely not the case.

Brakes are applied on hills over certain degree (works when reversing as well) and you have about 2 seconds to get moving. It’s not like your truck is held hostage for 2 secs, you can take off immediately as soon as HA turned on. This is why I don’t understand why so many folks have an issue with it.

I can certainly understand why you would feel that way. But for me personally I could give you a long list of why I liked the Frontier better. Not that I don't like the Tacoma - I do - but I would like it more without the HSA. I basically sold my soul to get MT.

Unplug any rear ABS sensor and HA will be disabled.:) Along with TC, VSC and TSS.

Yeah I would agree that it doesn't apply the brakes when it shouldn't. But it is a bit unpredictable in that on a gradual slope I don't know if HA will be engaged or not. And on a gradual slope the rollback is so slow that when I release the brakes I can't really tell if it's engaged or not. In my original post I mentioned that I didn't want to debate the merits of the feature - I realize that some people will love it and some people will hate it. I just happen to be one of the ones who hate it.

I wanted OR originally but no DCSB manual ORs in Canada. Had to settle for a sport, no regrets though. Manual
Is the most important requirement in a vehicle.

That's exactly what I said - I sold my soul for MT. I'm willing to accept a lot of what I don't want to get the one thing I really really want. And no regrets for buying the Tacoma. I just looking to turn off HSA.
