Toyota has the Highlander and the Rav4 to compete in those spaces. The 4Runner will likely remain the same as it's been a lead competitor top the Wrangler, and now Bronco.

I've read 1mpg and I've read 2mpg better so no telling. If it's 2mpg better in city that is an 11% increase where these trucks need it most. The hybrid also gets 48 more horses and 104 more lb-ft of torque. So I'd say it's worth the upgrade. Over the yearly average fuel cost estimate, it's only $100 savings. But I'd take the extra power & Torque for sure.

Overall average is calculated by combining city and highway and dividing by 2. So 21 for the TT-6 and 22 for the hybrid.

I think Toyota was planning a bigger Highlander too, if memory serves me it's called the Grand-Highlander.

Grand Highlander is debuting in February. The Chicago Auto Show which I find surprising because that’s always kind of been the Tacoma’s spotlight. I’m curious to know when the Tacoma will debut because it’s gotta be pretty much wrapped up if they’re planning to start production at the end of 2023. I’m certainly curious to see it and what they did with it.

As far as my 23 Tundra goes, I’ll take an 18% real world improvement in fuel economy over the previous Generation trucks.

Hybrid Tundra owners are not reporting any highway gains with the Hybrid vrs the non hybrid. They are getting 1-2 better pure city or grid lock traffic driving though.

I think we can expect the same MPG gains for for the Tacoma as Tundra. Probably 20% real world increase. I’d watch the Fuelly MPG vrs the advertised MPG on the NX350 to set an expectation level for the Tacoma. It’s the same Powertrain.

While that’s true, the tundra finally achieved 8 year old f150 fuel economy figures … kinda sad. Considering Toyota is a fuel economy leader in their cars and cuvs

Interesting they’d make a bigger highlander but also have the sequoia.

not really. My buddy has a 2022 F150 with the 3.5 and 10 speed transmission and 4x4. We take turns making the same highway run between Austin and San Antonio. He averages around 16 or 17 at best highway and I routinely hit 20 MPG in my Tundra when I drive. Please don’t mention the F150 Hybrid as it’s the least reliable truck on the market due to a result of the hybrid technology. Owners are dumping them left and right.

I’m not going of “friend of friend did x” I’m quoting actual 100s and 1000s of Fill ups through fuelly.
Tundra has not been hitting the insane advertised figures which have been flat out lies

Going by Fuelly, both the 2022 Tundra and F150 V6 engines average 17 MPG. But of course remember the F150s mileage gets bumped up from the 2.7 motor. So comparing apples to apples, 3.5 TT V6 non-hybrid, you will find the Tundra gets better MPGs than the all new F150 3.5 (full redesign in 2021), not an 8 year old design as you cherry pick facts.

fuelly is great but if you look at the actual owners, you will see many of them modify their trucks with bigger tires and lift kits, which negatively changes the fuel economy averages.

Finally got a full EV to replace wife's ICE BMW (I could not wait!). (I drive various EVs for work.)

My taco has 12k miles in 2-1/4 years - I've had turbos and twin turbros peviously. - I believe that for a truck, I'll sit it out... I'll happily wait with my Gen 3 MT for a full EV offroader to come.

I’m on the cusp of taking delivery of a ‘23 F150 4wd single cab coyote v8 with 3.73 gears. Think I’ll keep the 3rd gen taco as well. It does just enough to make me satisfied. But def not happy with the direction this 4th gen is going.

    Curious.
All this talk of more torque and mileage.
What will be increase/decrease in longevity and maintenance?
Will I be able to still personally do oil/filter, spark plug and pad changes for 100k, 200k, 300k+ miles. Will annual maint costs and effort increase by how much? Probably impossible to say but what does the outlook look like 5, 10, 15 years out with this new 4th gen?
My current 2017 3rd gen is at 100k, gets me to the trailhead, still drives like new and expect (hoping?) it to last another 10+ years with minimal consumables cost and maint.
I don't want more effort or expense in a new drivetrain vehicle, have other hobbies for that.
Thinking to get a new '23 MT OR (impossible so far) and call it done. Will likely be in a wheelchair sipping long island ice teas through a tube after that.

What is the chance they bring it out without tow hooks? They got murdered online for not putting them on the Tundra.

Reliability, viability and long term affordability is what is important to me. If I want massive hp and luxury, there’s a car for that.

A truck is a tool for some of us, and we need it to be affordable, and viable.

Turbos and fancy gadgets won’t get us there, and I hope TOYOTA doesn’t let the vocal few never ending demands for more, cloud what has earned them a great and stellar reputation so far.

    https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2021/audi-2-liter-turbo-problems-class-action-lawsuit.shtml
" Safety issues are also named in the class action lawsuit because the Audi 2-liter turbo problems may allegedly cause an immediate loss of engine power while driving.
The class action further alleges the the 2-liter turbo engines problems occur before the vehicles reach 75,000 miles, much less than expected by owners."

Just because other companies make shit turbo engines doesn’t mean Toyota’s will shit the bed too.

Has everyone already forgotten about the infamous 2JZ Toyota made that came from the factory with twin turbos? There’s a Supra with 520,000mi on it. Is that not reliable enough? Most people on this forum will never see 500k on a vehicle, let alone 300.

what the hell does Audi’s problems have to do with Toyota and their dedication to reliability, which is their brand’s Identity.

I'm confused, everyone complaining about a Engine/turbo they are using in the Lexus. How long have they been out for and how many issues have been reported?
