My point exactly. The technology will continue to evolve and get better and that watch you're wearing now will be replaced with a newer, updated model. And yes, they'll last as long as the phones they are paired with...which, on average, people upgrade every 2 years and most "techies" upgrade even more frequently. You've made my point for me.

They run as much as $800. I'm not talking about your specific model..Just generalities.

If you keep a smart watch more than 2 years, I'd say you're the exception, not the rule. They are not made to last much beyond that. Software changes demand hardware changes and all of the sudden it is beyond it's life-cycle.

I'm not opposed to smart watches, in fact I've been eyeing the Pixel watch for a while now. But the facts are what they are. It's life-cycle is short. I'm not some old geezer who refuses technology. I just make decisions based on logic. This is the facts about smart watches, whether you choose to believe them or not.

Disagree. I have the first apple watch I bought about 5 years ago and still works great. I just bought a new one because all the updated features. My Macbook air was going on 8 years and worked great. Just bought a new one because I wanted something faster and new. I guess it depends how up to date you want to be, but to say its obsolete is a bit of a stretch IMO

Again, I would classify you as the exception, not the rule. You like what you like and nothing anyone here says should change that.

To my point, if I had to replace an Omega Speedmaster after 8 years for something that did it's job better...I'd be irate.

    After 10 years...irate.
    After 20 years...irate.
    After 50 years...irate.

I understand. I feel the same about my Tag that is going on a solid 20 years old and is still my favorite watch. My Rolex is going on about the same age and still working and looking good.

Not only working and looking good, but still relevant in the used market. Probably doubling it's original purchase price. While the apple watch....not so much.

Yeah, any piece of technology ( apple watch, computer, etc) is going to depreciate as something new comes out and I accept that. The price of admission for me is worth it. Having a nice time piece is nice too for looks and as a tool

You only made two points in your original statement.

    1. That Apple watches last a year, which is stupid and incorrect

    2. That Apple watches cost $1000, which is stupid and incorrect.

Ive long been on the fence about apple watches. My So got me one for Christmas and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Its the Ti Adventure series which has the best that Apple has to offer. If it lasts like my phones, around 8 years or so, I'm ok with that. The only other two watches that are on the someday list is a Tag Monaco, and a Omega Speed Master. I previously wanted a Breitling as I do have a pilots license, but another pilot friend said he spends more time waiting on it to come back from service than actually wearing it.

I said obsolete, not inoperable. Obsolete in the sense that the new versions are released yearly and they're only supported for a short time (not sure exactly how long). A lot of my Apple watch friends buy the new Series when available to have the latest and greatest. I'm not that guy and maybe you're not either, but it's not uncommon.

I corrected my statement. The $1000 was given to me by a friend who bought one. Turns out, it was $800, but I'm assuming a lot of folks accessorize right away. Maybe that's what drove his cost. Not sure. Regardless, $800 is not so far off from $1000.

I was just searching for a watch thread. I am pretty new to watches but have become very interested on how they work and all the parts to them. I have just bought two and am super happy so far. The first is a 1950's Whittnauer automatic that just came in the mail Friday and tomorrow I have a 1965 Rolex 6694 coming.

I love my Cyclops but the best thing about the Submariner is the glide-lock Oyster bracelet.
