Oh yeah I forgot TOYOTA is immune to turbo related issues, my bad (sarcasm implied).
And btw, I still follow the golden rule "buyer be ware"

    https://www.motorbiscuit.com/2022-toyota-tundra-twin-turbo-engine-problems/
"But let’s look at the main issue that has concerned 2022 Tundra truck owners. It has to do with turbocharger problems"

Oh, they probably have a few...

But regrets, I have a few too

2015 NX turbo. The Achille’s heel of Lexus reliability?
5 years at just over 110000kms have had some major issues with the car.
    1. Rear main transmission seal deformed and leaked oil. 4 days in the shop. Back in for a fifth day as steering misaligned on reassembly.
2.Turbo wastegate pump replacement. Weeks to diagnose and video had to be shown of hesitation issues at high turbo rpms. 3 days in shop. Car returned after repair as went into limp mode as larger pump required new larger hosing for proper functioning.

I never said they were immune, simply highlighting the fact that they CAN make a reliable turbo car. I still think anyone is foolish to buy a first year model anything regardless of manufacturer. However the difference between Toyota and other brands is Toyota will stop production lines to fix the problem early. Where as the german brands let them run and fix the problem afterwards. Or in VW’s case, hope they don’t get caught.

Toyota has already identified the problem. https://www.motorbiscuit.com/new-toyota-tundra-turbocharger-failures/

Edit: Ford still seems to be having issues.

I'm just risk adverse to any potential expensive time bombs, but that's just me. TOYOTA is different up to now, but I don't like the changes in the wind. Just give me my V-8 and call it a day

If internet forums existed in the 60s and 70s you'd see the same complaints about fuel injection.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I mean if you're anti progress and improvements I'm sure you'd be much happier with one of these..

Nah, just give me a horse, very low maintenance there.

But I do hope you realize that just because you grow money on trees, doesn't mean that forest can't catch on fire.

I'm with you. Unfortunately the BMW/soy boy crowd has infiltrated the Tacoma market and Toyota is now making the trucks they want.

Yeah, I guess money talks and everyone else walks. And walk I will, and we'll see how long the soy boy crowd last when they realize it's still not a BMW lol!

Progress as beneficial is a fallacy.
    Appeal to Novelty.
Toying with the idea that progress is a zero sum game.
Nobody uses a spork at the dinner table.

Everybody measures progress differently. We try to improve with technology but to what end and to what cost? Is "progress" for progress sake a legit path? The old I'll create a solution for a problem that doesn't exist yet. That's a whole other discussion.

More power, torque, and mileage will be awesome for sure. Somehow offsetting the loss of the fun of a manual, increasing expected life, durability, ease of DIY maintenance and lowering overall costs would be progress IMO.

The 22 Tundra Turbo issues were pretty much limited to a bad production batch. Hasn’t been significant issues outside of that specific batch.

I think Honda had issues with a small turbo engine too, named Earth Dreams or something like that.

I’d hate to be the guy who has to pay for a Tundra who has issues past the warranty. And I’d hate to have to fork up an additional $3k to buy extended warranty, that doesn’t abuse or neglect among other hazards like rodent damage.

Moreover, I’d hate to be that guy who gets stuck with the bill after the extended warranty expires.

I have a 17 Tacoma, bought new with 89k miles on it and minimal surface rust on the frame no signs of rot anywhere. Driven in Wisconsin winters every year. The key is to wash it. I don't have it undercoated or anything. Just spray it off frequently, focusing on the undercarriage.

I was just browsing other forums, and I am just eager to see what Toyota ends up doing with the Tacoma, and hope they unveil it sooner than later. I remember seeing a post on this forum about it being available with 4 powertrains instead of the rumored 2 but I think the post was deleted due to a possible NDA. @Carmaker1 may be able to comment on that more. I really wish the Rav4 Prime powertrain would work for the Tacoma, but if that isn't an option and the only way to get "Hybrid" is with a turbo I would probably just stick with the 3.5 V6. Thats rumored to be carried over for the first year or two of the new gen.

We'll have to wait and see...there aren't many other toyota/lexus vehicles with that engine and it's still relatively new. Not enough miles on other vehicles to see.
