Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

Yup. I’ve got 16 bed cage bolts to contend with also. But are easy to get to with the fenders off and my 1/2 inch impact and extensions.

 

I don’t even wanna split my cage back there…it’s removable but the spring back may be a bitch to put back together…lol

 

I have almost a full hole of spring back in the front....a ratchet strap to my slider pulls it in enough to put a spike in it and install the bolts.

 

My through bolt plates at the CO towers are easy but I have 2 tube connectors at the back and they definitely require some persuasion ie: leverage with legs while you run the allen bolt in.

 

Yeah I’ve got it tabbed straight down at the front of the bed and where the diagonals land but yeah those tube connectors at the top are the concerning ones…haven’t pulled them since I finished the cage so who knows how much they might spring…lol

 

Meh. Just ditch the bed all together. Ready to hit the desert as is. Lol some pictures from the 20th from the last minute get the truck “drivable onto a trailer” 4x FWD

Yeah we listed mid November, had escrow close Dec. 14, they let us stay until the 20th. We closed on our new place on the 20th lol. Basically gambled with that 1 day with all our crap in one go. Luckily we were able to stay on schedule and it wasn’t delayed.

 

congrats on it working out! Can’t imagine how stressful that was. Especially with a truck on Jack stands.

 

Yeah it was a long week. I was burned out. We started packing stuff but really couldn’t do much while living there. Much of the stuff was done in a weekend. Both house and truck.

 

Did you change the wheelbase?

Looks longer than a normal dcsb, but shorter than a dclb, but a little hard to tell without the bed

 

The wheelbase is roughly 135”. I was at 142” DCLB with the JD front end paired with archive sua. I located the links as if using the oem carrier bearing cross member like their kit locates. Though I’m not welded on yet, I may shorten it some more.

 

Sweet, interested how that goes for you. I plan to shorten my wheelbase as well by about 8-10" on my dclb. I'd be around 141 right now, stock shortbed I believe is 127.5?

 

I think stock short bed is 127. But could be the extra half inch too. Or use their Tacoma links which has the pockets set farther back towards the axle. Should give you plenty of room to shorten it with less headache.

I will be notching the cab 100% for the coil overs. You could probably fit them differently to stay out of the cab and or 14/16 combo. I’m shooting for full bump with the link pockets sitting about 4 inches of ground clearance. Low ride height with as much up travel I can get. The shocks are angled into the cab at this point. Moving it forward might put my bypasses into the bottom of the window. I need to set it back on jack stands and clearance a few things to start cycling to get a better idea of where things will live.

 

Yeah I was thinking I'd be doing the links with the shocks mounted closer to the axle with 16/18". I don't really need or want more than 22-24" of travel, so that should work fine. I don't mind going into the cab if I have to, but I think with a 132"ish wheel base and shocks further back, it should be close to okay without needing to.

 

That’s what I originally shooting for for wheelbase. 132.

yeah I bet you’re fine with that and the lower motion ratio links. You won’t be into the cab if any at all.

 

Well going back to steering talk a few weeks ago. Finally got around to having the wife help me check to see what the culprit was for my “slop” issues. Seems I am having a bit of issue with play at the rack/pinion gear interface as well as the sloppy bushings like Harry had mentioned. So just ordered up some of the nylon bushings from @81Trekker and gonna try that paired with adjusting the preload on the rack slider. Trying to be budget friendly since this rack has probably less than 3k miles on it in the last 2 years

 

Youve abused it alot in the last 2 years. Ive destroyed new racks in a weekend in sand hallow.

Oh absolutely. There are few and far between trucks that see as much abuse as mine per mile. Gonna give this a go and at most throw a cheap new steering rack in. And that’s while designing a swing set or something that utilizes a steering box. Really just want to get through koh and summer before buying parts for something custom
