Guy from my local facebook marketplace selling this pair of rear 5100s for 60 dollars. Claims to have 5k miles on them and I was about to buy these new on Amazon for 200. Is this worth the money or a pass?

@Monster0Frankenstein Is there anything I need to look for on them? They really do not look like they were used very long. If I had to guess they were factory take offs but I am just a tacoma noob.

5100s are not OEM take offs, they are an “affordable” aftermarket option. Keep in mind these do not provide any lift and do not extend travel.

@Daria I am just looking to improve ride quality and match the ride height adjustable fronts i am going to be buying soon. Do you know if these have any noticeable difference to ride quality?

I ran Bilsteins on a Tacoma back in 2015 maybe. They were a little stiff. It’s a basic shock, if you want a smoother ride, find something with a resi. Buy once, cry once.

This. ^^^ I put 5100's on my truck roughly two years ago. They were brand new when installed. I had two of them blow out on me this November. I don't really do any hard wheeling. Mostly logging roads and such to access hunting areas. They were always kind of a harsh ride and I was never really happy with the 5100's. They just should not have failed within two years. I picked up a full set of Fox TRD Pro shocks and struts. The ride is soooooo much better. So, as mentioned, buy once, cry once.

Worth it for 60, they look to be in good condition. I think they are rated for 0-1.5"

There would be no real way of knowing if he had 50mi, 500mi, 5000mi, 50,000mi on them.

I would buy new so you can get some sort of warranty with them.

if you do go ahead with purchase. Ask for proof of purchase or receipt, and proof of part numbers.

For $60 buy them if that is what you are looking for. They look to be in good shape but if they blow out, not a big loss. I agree with buy once, cry once though. I just upgraded to Fox and they blow away my Toytec shit, which I expected. Lots of people have Bilstein and enjoy them but it will depend on the use of your truck.

Sounds like a lot of you have had the same results with 5200's on your Tacoma as I did on my 2500 Ram many years ago. Seemed kind of harsh and stiff. I think I'm going to save up and get a Fox 2 set up.

For 60 bucks yes, without a 2nd thought. Is it what you're looking for, offer 50.

Just for perspective took my daughter to Daves Hot Chicken yesterday for lunch, we had two meals with fires and small cokes. It was $46 bucks for chicken sliders with cheese and chicken tenders with cheese. I mean it was freaking delicious, but almost 50 for 2 chicken meals.
